Amazing resort - people literally live here

Arlington, Virginia

Koloa landing is a resort that is so good that part of it got sold to permanent residents (2 or 3 bedroom for a million or two). Now, not all buildings are to that level, but it gives an idea of what the level of expectation should be. It's located in Poipu, just left of the rounabout, about half an hour from the airport. The resort has several pools, separated for kids, adults and nearly dead folks. Our room 10-405, was a simple room with a king bed, a nice couch, and small kitchenette with a fridge and some counter space. Enough to make breakfast and lunch, not for dinner. Oh, and for drinks of course. There was also a washer-dryer. The resort was super clean and staff was very friendly. We were lucky to be there during a very quiet period, but we can't imagine it ever being really full there. The pools are fantastic. Nicely decorated in a Hawaiian rock theme in fun shapes and with various features. From the resort, you can easily walk to a nearby strip mall on the roundabout, and to the Poipu shopping village, but they ain't romantic walks. If you really want to go for a hike, you can walk to the Spouting Horn. And if you really want to you could walk to the Maha'ulepu hike, which is gorgeous, but you might as well ride to the Hyatt first. The only disadvantage for the place is that it does not have a beach, and there is not really an easy beach to walk to, so you need to get into your car to get to the beach. Luckily, that'll allow you to go straight to all the beautiful beaches on Kauai, instead of being stuffed on the busy beach at your hotel. Remember: all beaches in Hawaii are public.

Great hotel with Ocean Access.

Dallas, Georgia

Great boutique Marriott property that has access to the ocean, though no official beach like right out the door. Stayed in building 8 and the side I as on had direct views of the water over houses or, like our room, an empty lot. The grounds were fantastic and what you’d expect at a more luxury property in Hawaii. It was a pleasant 30 minute drive from the airport and only a resort fee, no parking fee. The room was clean, excellently maintained and the bed was fantastic. The gym was nice and the adult pool was much quieter than the family one. Enjoyed a reasonably priced (for resort) hotel breakfast and the staff all throughout the property was fantastic. The property is also part of a “for sale” type location but felt absolutely zero pressure or need to talk to anyone about that. Definitely not a timeshare type vacation club Marriott. Plenty of restaurants and shops within an easy 10 minute walk or super fast drive. Great overall location for families and couple who want a resort experience. Our room even had a decent sized under counter fridge, since, and two burner stove. There were grills for use on the property so, I suppose, in theory you could cook simple meals.
