The Chesterfield - A European-styled Boutique Hotel With High Tea

Ottawa, Canada

Set in one of Palm Beach's most historic properties, stands the Chesterfield, a luxurious Europeans-styled boutique hotel providing elegant accommodations and irresistible cuisine in a divine setting where high tea and a cigar parlour recall a bygone era of service. The Chesterfield, an architectural gem, is an oasis of old world charm and just 'a stones throw' from the golden-sand beaches and glistening blue aura of the Atlantic and epitomizes the vibe of English royalty meets the Coastal tropics. The Chesterfield is surrounded by palm-lined boulevards and the elegant villas of the gentry of Palm Beach which is tauted as none of the most moneyed zip codes in the US. The notoriety of this community is heightened (or decreased ....depending on your viewpoint) as of late, with the presence of the current President playing out his weekends at Mar-a-Lego. A legendary hotspot, catering to celebs, business leaders, society matrons and other high-flyers, the Chesterfield is more of a cupid spot than a family vacation venue. The exterior facial expression of the Chesterfield is one of peach stucco walls that echo the colour of the coral found on the nearby beach. With pretty green awning accents, and from a front and centre view, the building looks more like a boutique residential complex than a hotel. A chauffeured Rolls Royce makes a ritzy addition to the entrance of the property. I followed a small courtyard to the lobby where Venetian chandeliers hang from the ceiling and hallways are papered in a palm pattern. The lobby featured light-yellow walls, dark furniture and bright floor tiles. Flower arrangements profusely dot the space and the ensemble of furniture, curtains , paintings and mirrors infuse the lobby with a look that resembles a formal living room rather than a hotel lobby. Each room, at the Chesterfield, is baptized in a unique layout, design and colour scheme with an explosion of floral patterns and geometries. As well, each room has been designed with rich fabric, glorious artwork, traditional furnishings lightened up with a dab of coastal influence and the aromatics of a freshly-cut flower arrangement. My first foray into my room revealed a posh over-the-top display of pink-passion decor and the hotel immediately transposed me into accommodations with a milder palette (to my way of thinking). My new room, with a softer colour influence was outfitted with fine linen, comfortable bedding, plush upholstered chairs, and sumptuous wallpaper. The boudoir was a tad small, but all the high-tech appliances were there. The bath was of a more favourable size, marbled and decked out with an adequate supply of toiletries....... and don't forget the jelly beans. The Chesterfield offers several options for dining amongst them, the Courtyard, an al fresco option (when weather permits) or in the provocative Leopard Lounge & Restaurant, a chic bistro, dark, moody with a black-lacquered centrepiece bar adorned with brass leopard heads that seem poised as 'garde de chiens' over the establishment. The restaurant provides an excellent choice of local seafood items, internationally inspired items (the Grilled Veal Chop is stellar) and comfort-styled cuisine from Crab Cakes (with crab from Maryland ...my favourite) to Chicken Curry. The Leopard Lounge is a popular night spot for guests and Palm Beachers to sip on fashionable cocktails and 'kick up their heels' on the dance floor to live music entertainment. The wood-panelled library is the home for serving afternoon English tea paired up with your choice of warm freshly baked scones or dainty hand-cut sandwiches or delectable pastries. Tea time was one of my favourite times at the Chesterfield and afterwards I would let the 'book in me ' take over by nestling up to the cozy fireplace with a novel from the library stacks. The Chesterfield has a handsomely gardened, heated pool, but the hotel is generally not well endowed in extra curricular facilities. There are, however, 2 golf courses, a spa and a gym within a 5 minute drive of the hotel. For shopaholics, Worth Avenue, is almost at the hotel's feet with upper-crust retailers like Chanel, Hermes, Tiffany and the likes (its worth going,.....but you almost need a net worth of high 7 figures to shop here). For culture lovers, a 15 minute drive will hook you up the Norton Museum, Palm Beach Opera, South Florida Science Museum as well as the heart of West Palm Beach with boutiques, restaurants and more shopping. A gracious and attentive staff met me at the entrance to the hotel when I arrived and this service attitude remained with me for the duration of my visit. So, if you would relish staying at a historic, architecturally handsome European-styled hotel which lives up to the luxury expectations of the savvy Beach Beach crowd.......... then try the.......Chesterfield.......A European-styled Boutique Hotel With High Tea.

Vintage property with a great vibe! Fantastic reception as soon as I arrived.

Denver, Colorado

A quirky property with a great vibe! Wonderful staff and fun atmosphere! I ate their restaurant and that is why there are four stars instead of five. The service (Jason) was wonderful. The steak was medium instead of medium-rare. The meal was not well seasoned, but overall was a good experience. Bar service was difficult to get going, but it seemed they were just wrapping up some event. Worth the visit!
