Clean, Nice Rooms, Freezing Pools bad parking

This is the 2nd time I have stayed at Pop Century resort, and at least my 15th time staying at a disneyworld resort property. This resort was recently renovated and the rooms are very nice. I loved the murphy/wall queen bed in our room. It was nice as I have a toddler and during the day we could fold the bed away to have more room to move about. The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean and relatively quiet. The bathrooms were very nice and I appreciated all the small touches such as the small "night light" feature in the wall socket and the many towel bars and hooks to hang up wet items was something I have never seen before in any hotel room. For the price the room was a great value. Some members of our party used the Disney Luggage tags upon arrival to have their luggage transported from the airport to the hotel along with taking disney magical express. They arrived at the airport at 11AM and didn't get their bags until 9:30PM after we complained and called 4 times. They advertise luggage to be delivered to the room in 3 hours from arrival. This was very annoying as some people didn't have clothes to wear to go out to dinner. The parking was horrible. We traveled with extended family and shared a car. One person in our party is handicap. They were doing construction and had half the parking lot blocked off by our room block. Therefore there were barely any parking spaces available at any given time and especially no handicap spots. I was also told when we booked our reservation that parking was free at the resort with a handicap placard. But we were charged for parking anyways. Which is even more disappointing because the whole point of having the car was to make things easier for our handicap traveler, and we didn't once find a handicap spot available. To make things worse we had planned to spend half our time in the pools and half time at the parks. We were quickly disappointed when the pools were so cold that we couldn't enjoy them except for a few minutes at a time. It was a beautiful 86, Sunny, and Humid outside so enjoying the pools should have been easy. So the 2nd pool day we decided to drive to the animal kingdom lodge and have lunch, where we discovered that the pool water was at least 10 degrees warmer and very pleasant. I am not sure if it is frowned upon or not to visit a different pool than the resort you are staying at, but we did because we didn't want to waste our whole vacation swimming in freezing water. We asked the staff several times to raise the temperature in the pools and were told that all resort pools are kept at the same temperature and that they are only different because of the shade they get. Well I am here to tell you the Pop century pools are in full sunlight compared to the animal kingdom lodge pools which are in a jungle of shade. So that made no sense at all. We swam for hours until night fall at the animal lodge (which I have stayed at before and is very nice). I just think it is a shame that Disney can't afford to heat all resort pools equally and to a nice warm temperature regardless if it is a value resort or a luxury resort. Especially when certain resorts don't have hot tubs to warm you up, those pools should be warmer. I will not choose to stay at Pop Century again because of this reason alone. I LOVE Disney World. And I will go back. But I have never been this disappointed in the Disney Experience.

Still here, won’t be back

The main reason we chose the resort was to take advantage of the Magic Extra Hours. Once here, I was told they only do the extra hours on certain days & they wouldn’t be on the days we are staying. Of course, if we wanted to buy tickets to a ticketed event then we could go early. Not really a “Place where dreams come true”. First time to bring my boys to Disney & disappotment before we even go to the park. The room is small but nice. For the price we could have easily stayed in a suite at another property. There are conveniences while staying here you don’t get other places, like the magic bands you can use to buy things in the parks & have them sent to the resort (if there isn’t a loophole I missed about only being able to do it on certain days of something). I repeatedly attempted to contact the front desk to ask questions but after waiting a ridiculous amount of time gave up & called the Disney 800 to ask questions. I guess personal touch isn’t what they do once you are at the resort. We are still here until Friday, but won’t be back.
