Disappointed

Lisburn, United Kingdom

We stayed for 3 nights in this hotel on the recommendation of friends but were disappointed. Location: The location is absolutely brilliant being within walking distance of just about everything on Miami Beach. Check-In: We arrived off a cruise so were in the hotel by 11am. We fully understood that our room would not be ready and appreciated the offer to store our luggage. The check-in was 'ok' and staff members were friendly enough. Room: The room was a little tired and 'cold' with the tiled flooring. It was however spacious but the view was dreadful. The first problem we identified was feather pillows; my wife is allergic to these. The second problem was defective wall sockets; they were not working. The third problem was the reading light at one side of the bed was defective and I need a lot of light for reading. We drew the pillow problem to the attention of a male receptionist on the first night. He shrugged his shoulders and said 'housekeeping has quit'. We were not surprised that housekeeping had quit but expected an offer of assistance, unfortunately, this man showed no interest. I suggested perhaps additional pillowcases would alleviate the problem to some degree. The receptionist agreed to arrange this. I also mentioned that the bedside light was defective but once again no one was available to assist. When we returned after dinner on the first evening no additional pillowcases were provided. I raised both issues and the third one with a female receptionist the next morning. I was disappointed that she was not aware of the two problems reported the previous evening but she undertook to have all the matters attended to. When I returned in the afternoon the same staff member was on duty so I enquired about the three problems discussed with her that morning. She assured me all these issues had been resolved. I went to the room and discovered that additional pillowcases had been provided and that the wall socket was now working but was disappointed that the reading light had not been repaired. I returned to reception and advised the female receptionist of this and she just stared at me blankly. I male colleague asked what the problem was so I explained. He assured me that the lighting system was unique and offered to show me concluding that I did not know how to work the lights. I assured him that I did but he did offer to go to the room with me and show me that the bedside lights were both working. To his dismay, he discovered that I was right but recovered quickly and quite incredulously informed me that a bulb had been ordered. A little honesty would have gone a long way but sadly the light was not repaired prior to leaving. One would have thought in a City the size of Miami a bulb could have been sourced. The bedroom was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Bathroom: The bathroom was spacious, clean and well appointed. Breakfast: We had thought of having breakfast in the hotel but when I went to the restaurant on the first morning I discovered pigeons roaming around the floor hoovering up the crumbs. I could not believe this but none of the other guests seemed to mind. I decided to dine elsewhere. WiFi: The wifi was superb. Checking Out: Unfortunate for us we checked out after 3 days with the same female receptionist that I complained to a few days previously. She presented the bill; never asked if we enjoyed our stay; never apologised over the issues highlighted; never smiled and was negative throughout. Overall: I am sorry but I cannot recommend this hotel for one simple reason; 'staff attitude'. The staff members were polite but not friendly. When problems were raised the response was poor and I was misled into believing that the bedside light had been repaired when in fact it was not. I simply fail to understand why a bulb replacement could not have been completed in a 3-day time slot. If it was a greater problem than that then I should have been informed. I have to say the guys on the door were exceptionally friendly and made us feel welcome. Apart from the staff attitude, this hotel has a lot going for it and I am sure a positive response rather than a 'defensive' stance will auger well for the future. After all, it is not too difficult to be friendly, helpful, communicative and honest.

Fabulous

Loved the location, convenient to everything. The staff were friendly and attentive. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We especially loved the pool area. It was so relaxing to sit out by the pool at night and listen to the music and look at the lights.
