A sensual Spanish boutique hotel

The classic Casa Faena has a rich history, this stylish hotel was original built in 1928 and the architecture has been influenced by Miami Beach's early Spanish roots. The design of the hotel is quaint and full of character but just steps away from the hip Collins Avenue as well as one block away from the soft sands of South Beach and the entertainment of Ocean Drive this is one hotel without compromise.

Rude front desk staff

I didn't actually stay at Casa Faena, but I stopped by the front desk on a recent trip to Miami to inquire in person about a future reservation. I'd called the day before and was quoted a price by someone very pleasant, and the next day I had decided to book it. The man at the front desk -- Gary? -- was extremely rude and condescending. He treated me as if I were lying about the rate, and spoke to me about how rates changed as if I were some newbie trainee on my first day on the job. I get it that rates change, and I don't even mind if they went up since I'd called because that happens, but to treat me like I was lying? I felt the strangest tension from him. He was incredibly hostile. I ended up booking the room but canceled because he was so off-putting and made me feel bad about my stay. I don't think he'd ever speak to a man the way he spoke to me. I don't think people like that should work at the front desk.

Oasis in the middle of everything

This is a great option for a quiet boutique hotel that just steps from everything. Incredibly well-priced for the rooms, amenities and location--especially in high season. We stayed over Christmas week and had a room with a small balcony overlooking Collins Avenue. It's right next door to the Ice Cream museum and the Faena Theater. The decor is 30's Spanish Colonial and is an elegant nod to another era without feeling stodgy. The King room was large with plenty of room for the two of us to stash bags. Nice toiletries on offer as well as a Keurig and upscale mini-bar supplies. The on site cafe is relaxed and offers very good options. Someone is always available to make a latte or a cocktail that can be enjoyed on the front terrace. The "library" off the lobby is also a comfy spot to read or have a glass of wine. Staff was really friendly and helpful. The main FAENA is just a few steps away for an additional selection of top restaurants and an amazing spa. The boardwalk leading to the famous Miami beaches is just across the street. There's no pool. There is a construction site nearby but there is no work going on, so there was no issue with noise etc. The South Beeach district is a quick uber drive away.
