Feel privileged to have stayed here

Leigh-on Sea, United Kingdom

I booked a suite which was huge we had a large super king bed in one room and a double sofa bed in a second room. The room number 106 had a large furnished balcony. The room had recently been renovated but after attending one of historical tours about the hotel it explains that everything has to be restored as of 1920,S decor. The hotel is beautiful and worth the high room charge. There is so much more to see staying in the valley floor. Late nights and early mornings with free ranger talks. It’s a privilege to be able to stay at this hotel. If you can stretch your budget it’s definitely worth it.

Amazing location but badly outdated and very expensive

London, United Kingdom

This has been highly recommended as the go-to resort when staying in YNP and when you arrive at the hotel (after a couple of hours of very slow moving traffic through the park) the views are simply jaw-dropping. However, what you see on the outside isn’t necessarily replicated on the inside. The checking-in, lounge and dining areas are amazing rooms, however, very dated. Then you get to the bedrooms and they are even more dated. As my wife said it was like we’d stepped back into a 1970’s film. Bedrooms are a good size but the bathroom facilities are poor. Also as you’ll be in the heart of the YNP do not expect a half-decent WiFi service. The outdoor swimming pool is very small surrounded by 8 (yes eight) sun loungers. So after a hard days walking don’t necessarily expect you can relax by the pool after a quick dip to loosen those tired muscles. I’ve done a separate review on the restaurant but if you’re a guy make sure you have some long trousers/ jeans as you’ll be sent away if in shorts. Overall, it is nice to stay somewhere so historic and in the middle of the most beautiful surrounds but expect a big punch to that dropped jaw when you get your final bill. It’s about time YNP used some of the millions of dollars in park taxes they receive to update the Ahwahnee to justify the exorbitant room rates.
