Rating as a Conference Destination

Pasadena, Maryland

This is an iconic landmark. You have to start there. It has a long history. Sure, the floors in some parts creak, but they are sturdy. It is built to take advantage of the lovely Coronado weather. So, back to basics: good gym. Plenty of cardio and an acceptable machine weights with dumbbells to 50# and a couple pools. To the conference info: I had to run a couple days of training, and the set-up and A/V support was excellent. Also, the food (sandwiches, salads) were nicely done. The main conference was in their world-renown Crown Room, of which my only criticism is that it is wide and dark - prepare for a few nappers if you don't have lively speakers. We chose all the social and reception events to be al fresco, and that worked very nicely. One was on the beach and nicely organized, though it was getting a bit dark and chilly by my calendar - but that was our decision not theirs. I have to admit to not being too wow'd by the food for those, but again that may have been our choice. I can say their B&S Bakery has some great light bites, if at the usual hotel price. The location itself is easy to get to from San Diego airport and there is lots to walk to from the hotel, so don't panic if you are car-less. The only downside is that I arrived around 11am on a Sunday and did not get into my room until closer to 4pm. The place was always packed, and I can well imagine a huge room turn-over - and probably not just on a Sunday. Anyway, I would return to this place.

Birthday by the beach

Trophy Club, Texas

My husband treated me to a trip to The Del for my 40th. The hotel was so beautiful and elegant. Even dreamy. We stayed in the Victorian part in a suite. Small bathroom but large closet. We loved having ceiling fans in the room. Huge bonus. The beds were super hard combined with the feather pillows, we never got truly cozy. Housekeeping brought us more pillows which seemed to help. The provided toiletries were nice! The hotel itself was a little under construction so we had to use the smaller pool near the taco shack. We still loved it even though it was cool outside. No pool waitstaff or at least not in the evenings when we went so we had to bring our own beverages. The pool wasn’t busy at all so we had the hot tub and pool to ourself. So fun! Great towels provided. Valet- very fast. We loved the morning crew. The bearded valets were so nice and helpful. I even noticed how meticulous they treated the hotel. One guy saw that they entry rug was a couple inches out of place and moved it back into place. No trash to be seen anywhere. Love the pride the staff had in this hotel. Easy to park. Easy to walk to restaurants (must go to Claytons). Just easy. Nice. Dreamy. We loved going to see the professional sandcastles at the beach each day. Nice touch!
