The only good thing about this hotel is the location.

Chandler, Arizona

Another reviewer said it best: this is a 3 star hotel trying to pass itself off as a 5 star resort. Please be clear: this is not a resort. This is an average hotel in a very convenient and central location. I booked a Bay View room and the view of the water was great. My only concern prior to the visit was that the Bay View rooms would be loud due to them being over the restaurants, but luckily this wasn't an issue at all. Biggest disappointment during my week long stay was definitely housekeeping. Service was VERY inconsistent from day to day....every day was a new surprise to see what they forgot to do. One day we didn't get any bath mats, one day the ice bucket wasn't emptied, one day we didn't receive our "complimentary" resort fee bottled water, one day we didn't receive any body lotion, etc. All of these things are tiny and not worth complaining about individually at the time, but by the end of the week when you add every little thing up it does make a difference in your overall impression of the hotel. I work in the service industry myself, so I'm extremely considerate when it comes to other service employees. In order to make their jobs easier, I put ALL of my belongings away every day before I leave the room so they don't have to trip over and move my stuff out of their way. Also, I tip what I consider to be pretty generously (if you consider that most "tipping guides," one listed on this very website in fact...say $2-5 a day for housekeeping staff) along with a note thanking them and if I have any requests, usually just for extra towels. I never received any extra towels, but they always took the $20 bill I left. Maybe this isn't enough of a tip for them? I thought it was pretty nice for the very minimal amount of work they have to do to clean up after me. Anyways, I always had to call for extra towels when returning back to the room every day. Also, the only other thing I ever requested were some foam pillows, and what they brought me was actually comical, so I'm including photos of these "pillows" if you need a laugh after reading my review. Also, I don't think they even cleaned the bathroom floors most of the time, either. The day housekeeping forgot to empty the ice bucket I was dumping the water out into the sink when I spilled quite a bit on the floor. I used a hand towel to wipe up the water, and the towel was completely black when I looked at it. (This was why I needed the extra towels, by the lay on the floor so I'd have something clean to walk on.) Another huge disappointment was with maintenance. After we checked in and unpacked I noticed that the lock between the connecting room doors was defective. (If you zoom in close enough on my room photos you can even see what I'm talking about.) It didn't work at all, which made me feel a bit unsafe. Called maintenance, they came and said "oh that's weird, I've never seen that before." Couldn't fix it. Eventually I just said "oh that's okay" and hoped no one in the next room murdered me in myself sleep. Which brings me to the room next door. If you do stay at this resort, INSIST on a room that doesn't have a connecting door, if they even have any. The walls in general seemed to be thick in the room, but I could hear everything that happened on the other side of that connecting door. (Right down to the beeps every time they opened their in room safe.) I could also hear every minute of screwing and drilling when they were replacing a shower door in that room. After 30 minutes of LOUD noise I called down to the front desk to see how much longer they'd be, and I received ZERO apologizes for the inconvenience. You'd think maybe they'd send up a bottle of wine as a kind gesture, but no. Couldn't even get an "I'm so sorry for the noise." This is the minute I knew I'd never be returning to this resort. Cue to the last day when we were checking out. This is a small hotel so I decided I could get my luggage down the elevator and out to valet on my own. I didn't realize my suitcases wouldn't roll easily on their hallway carpet. A second after I left the room I was obviously struggling to roll my bags, and the male housekeeping staff who happened to be across the hall offered zero assistance and even said "ARE YOU CHECKING OUT?!?!" so they could turn over the room the second the door shut behind me. And speaking of the last day, this was the ONLY day that the valets offered us bottled water. Where was that service all week? Valet in general was acceptable, but on many occasions we'd walk outside and there would be at least 5 employees standing and talking to each other at the valet stand and it would take me walking over to them before they'd notice me. The one bright spot of the trip was the spa. I was with my mom so we did a spa day early in the week, and my mom said that the facial she had was the best she'd ever received, and we've been to quite a few high end resorts. One little thing....there was a pretty strong sewage smell in the toilet area, hopefully that's just something leftover from recent renovations that they've fixed by the time I write this review. I'm a very nice person so I'm not writing this review with the intent to bash the hotel, in fact I wasn't even going to post this because I feel bad even as I'm typing this out. But honestly, these these are all things I would've liked to know before my stay so I hope I help at least one person by writing this.

Ridiculous charges

Our actual stay was great. I wasn't too pleased 3 days later when my account was hit with a $250 fee dor smoking in the room. The problem is, my wife has asthma so i couldn't even smoke in the room if I wanted to break that policy.
