My daughter's comment "I would love to stay longer in LA if we were not staying at this hotel".

Unfortunately, we did not enjoy our stay with the SLS Hotel. We discovered on our first night that our mattresses were very HARD. Both my daughter and myself were sore the next day from sleeping on them. It felt like we had slept on the floor. Also, the air in our room was not working correctly. Then after showering I discovered the circuit breaker tripped every 60 seconds while trying to dry my hair. We stopped by the front desk around 9:00AM on Sunday, Mar 11th to address all of these issues. We were told that someone would stop by to fix the air, that housekeeping would add a feather bed to our mattresses, and that there was nothing they could do about the circuit breaker. We left the hotel for the day and returned at 6:00PM to find housekeeping in our room. I was shocked our room was not cleaned by 6:00. I asked housekeeping to come back in 15 minutes as we needed to change before heading back out to dinner. When we returned at 8:00 housekeeping was still in our room and told us they needed 20 to 30 more minutes. This was extremely frustrating especially after no sleep and a long day. When we finally got in our room around 8:30, I noticed that they had not added the feather beds as we had been promised earlier in the day. Housekeeping just left a stack of linens by the desk that appeared to be a feather bed. I called guest services to have another feather bed sent up. I was told no problem and that it would be there as soon as possible. I unmake my daughter's bed and pick up the linens housekeeping left only to discover that it was a thin down comforter not a feather bed. Then housekeeping calls to tell me they do not have feather beds or anything to help make the bed more comfortable. They can bring another thin comforter if I want. At this point I am furious that I have been mislead by guest services, delayed by housekeeping on getting into our room, and now have an unmade bed for no reason. I told housekeeping it was awful customer service and hung up. We finally crawl into bed exhausted only to be woken up by housekeeping at 9:30PM for turn down service. Housekeeping told me it was my fault for not turning on the privacy light. However it never occurred to me housekeeping would come back if they finished at 8:30. Plus our beds were already turned down. We turned on our privacy light for the remainder of our trip to avoid the housekeeping nightmare.

Not what it once was

I’ve stayed at the SLS several times before, and I can say that the hotel is definitely showing it’s age. The rooms have seen better days, and the whole vibe of the place just doesn’t seem as luxurious as it once was. Little things like the towels in the bathroom behind frayed, or large holes in the seat cushion on the couch. I know they are doing some renovations so maybe that will help. Location is great, and the staff is top notch. Hopefully they can recapture some of what they once had at the property.
