Anniversary Trip

Always a pleasure - close enough to walk to Rodeo Drive and many other places. Quiet and hospitable. The bar staff are always exceptional and the staff always polite and accomodating. The rooms are comfortable and roomy. This is our choice whenever we visit LA.

Nice suite and good food; facilities could be a tad better

New York City, New York

We stayed in a Mr C 2 bedroom suite for 3 nights. We were on the side of the hotel that faces away from the street; I think you would want to request that since Pico Boulevard can be busy. The Mr C suites are mostly on low floors which was actually good since there are only 2 elevators and they could use a third. You do get nice views from the top floors though. Take the elevator to the top floor to the ballroom and see great 360 degree city views all the way to downtown and the Hollywood sign. Our suite was very bright and decorated nicely; as suites go, it was one of the most pleasant ones i've had. The bathrooms are nice; the living room also has a small bathroom. The beds were comfy; a/c and showers easy to operate. The terraces were useful and there were plenty of places to put things away. We were surprised that there was no evening turndown service. The spa service was good and they have a great steamroom; it is only available by appointment. The swimming pool appears to be salt water and rather small; you can get across it in 2 strokes and it was not heated. It seemed to be there to fill a check in a box rather than as a real amenity to be used. The gym was fairly good; it could use a foam roller and a couple of attachments to the kinetics machine; I got the feeling that the people who outfitted it were not gym users. For instance there is only one exercise mat in the whole place. 3 people in the gym at the same time all said it could use one. I told 2 people including one managerthat the clock on the wall of the gym needed to be set back an hour and over 2 days nobody did anything. I could have done it myself in about 30 seconds but I didn't do it to see if anyone from the hotel would do anything. I assume the foam roller won't be happening either. Breakfast was very good although the $30 per person Amex or Virtuoso credit doesn't get you far on their pricey a la carte menu; the kitchen and the dining room staff are excellent. I had numerous problems geting all the Virtuoso F&B credits applied to my hotel bill (i wasted a huge amount of time at the front desk getting it done), and it was a real pain getting anyone from the hotel's accounting department on the phone after I had checked out and then for anyone from that department to actually followup. After 3 days I had to call the front office manager to get someone to actually look at the bill and tell me if it was right. I was sometimes able to get a NY Times and Wall Street Journal delivered to the hotel and sometimes not. I wanted the hotel driver to take me somewhere and I knew I'd need the car at 4pm; i kept being told to come back at the time I wanted to leave. When I came back, I was told the driver had gone to lunch. If that happens every day, they could have told me not to expect him to be available at 4pm. All in all, the hotel is fine but if you want a full 5-star property with all the amenities that you want somewhere in the Beverly Hills area, there are other properties that will fill out the edges better such as the Peninsula or the Beverly Hills Hotel. If you are going to be in this neighborhood, this place is no contest when compared to the Residence Inn or the Marriott down the street; for a couple hundred dollars more you get so much more here. This hotel takes great care to plaster their logo all over the place; the managers should do a better job of walking through the hotel and making sure everything is in its proper form. If you call Uber from the hotel, be sure and edit the pickup location to read the hotel or else the car might well go somewhere else.
