Birthday Getaway

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Hmmm. Let’s see. Every year for my birthday we kind of spoil ourselves after working very hard to be where we at. Last year I stayed at Al-Maha in Dubai and we were very happy and so it was only natural to adopt a similar concept for this year but this time at a Ritz-Carlton which we have stayed in before in other part of the world. And boy how we had been so wrong to our expectations. Whilst the room and villa was so nice but everything else was a disappointment. First of all my wife called 10 days before to advise it will be my birthday and if something could be arrange in regards to a cake, she was promise it will be done but yet one hour before actually going to the restaurant on the day, she called to confirm that all was in order but to her surprise they knew nothing of it and wanted 2hrs to prepare a cake. Later that evening a cake of which i can only describe as a ‘petrol station shop bought cake’ was brought to the table with a lonely and sad candle on it. Now am not after a freebie cake, they could have told her up front they don’t do special on birthday and we would have bring our own ( I could afford it), but for a Ritz-Carlton to serve such mediocre product is appalling and bear in mind I just paid $3000 for two nights stay. The first night we went to the Kaheela restaurant whereby my wife ordered the Sea bass but to our surprise it was communicated to us by the waiter that its not available as already 3 other guests have ordered it (is this a Ritz or holiday inn?). Am sorry but I wont be staying in this establishment again, I would rather take my money and spend somewhere else. This place is just a Marriott with a Ritz-Carlton label on the letterhead.

Oh my just amazing................. I want to go back now

This is our second visit here and I have to say we both said " why did we leave it so long ". We have had the most amazing 3 night stay, warmth, relaxation but most importantly the Staff. I personally cannot wait to be back there, and hopefully very soon. We need to make special mentions to: Elvis, our amazing buggy driver who went over and beyond with an impromptu drive around to see the sunset, Glanesh, Subhajit and Arun who looked after our villa. They were just amazing, every day a new towel display from Elephants to Doggies all beautifully designed on our bed on a daily basis: ALL the lovely lovely guys in the moon bar who managed to entice us with their delicious cocktails and more and lastly James Elchico ( Whispering Angel) who works in Farmhouse Restaurant, his service and knowledge about the food and wines was/is superb. James will certainly go huge places within this chain, he deserves it. I would happily be back there right now and rest assured it will be soon. Thank you for making our break so special.
