Mixed review

My family spent the weekend of May 10-12 at the Al Wadi resort. This was our first ever stay in a Ritz Carlton. I went there with high expectations based on their reputation.  In fact, their exemplary service was the subject of a case study we had in our MBA.  Prior to our visit, we got an email questionnaire in reaponse to which we provided guest details and even gave details of my daughters' birthday.  Property is sprawling and very well maintained. The rooms are tastefully done and offer a good deal of privacy.  The in resort activities were top class. The Falconer show in the afternoon was very exciting for adults and kids alike. The desert ATV ride and stargazing sessions with Gabriel were very informative and were enjoyed by all.  We felt that the service in the resort was inefficient. For instance, when they knew we were 2 adults and 2 kids, they could have left 4 towels in the room. We had to remind them more than once before they sent then. The birthday cake they sent us was really a joke. We should have ordered a proper cake. These incidents and a few more left us wondering why they sent us the email survey before arrival.  Another issue I would like to point out is the housefly problem on the property. There were houseflies in the room and many more in the restaurant. The buffet was sumptuous, but food felt unappetizing after flies sat on the plate.  I hope that the housekeeping dept pulls up its socks. Based on our experience, I would rate the property and the activities very highly but the service levels were below expectations.

Just okay. Has a lot to work on.

Hoboken, New Jersey

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our one year anniversary after a few days in Dubai at the Four Seasons Jumeirah Beach. This resort is pretty disappointing overall and we left a day early. The resort had emailed us prior to arriving to ask if we were celebrating anything to which we both said we were celebrating our anniversary. They replied saying they’d provide a small cake in our villa- unfortunately, nothing was done that mentioned our anniversary after they were the ones reaching out to us... Seems like a lack of communication/poor planning. We didn’t have the two bikes that the resort boosts about being in each villa. We only had a red children’s bike when we arrived. Took hours to get them after asking. Again, poor planning. We reserved one of the villas, 312, which is huge and has a fully private pool which is great. The villa needs a lot of repair. There was disgusting, filthy pillows on the couch and a lot of scuffs/damage to the furniture and walls. There were stains all over the carpet. It needs some love and a makeover badly. It is the desert. There are ants and bugs in the villa because the doors are not sealed. I know it’s the desert and it’s difficult to keep all the critters away. There is tons of bird poop on the pool patio because the birds flock to the pool, of course. I get they can’t keep it clean constantly, but it wasn’t even clean for our arrival. I mean you literally can’t sit on any of the chairs, etc. they’re covered in poop. On the flip side- the food is fantastic! Farmhouse and it’s service are both excellent. We ate there two nights in a row and everything was excellent. We did the full board one day and the half board the next and we found the prices to be well worth it. Cocktails are cheap! The food in the lunch restaurant is awesome as well. My husband has the mixed grill which was huge and I had the green shrimp (can’t remember their name) which was also fantastic. The air doesn’t work in the restaurant though so we sweated through our meal. You are really held captive onto the resort which is to be expected since it’s the desert. Keep this in mind when booking if that bothers you. Riding the bikes around the resort is great fun. We chose to do a camel ride as our full board activity which was awesome as well. The falconry show is daily and free. We saw camels, gazelles and oryx right past our pool which is priceless. My recommendation would be to come here for one night. The animals and food in the Farmhouse are incredible! The resort was recently taken over by the Ritz and I think it just has some kinks to work out.
