Lovely week in the sun

Dundee, United Kingdom

We had such a good time here last year for our 25th Wedding Anniversary we returned this year with our teenage daughter to celebrate our 26th. This time we booked an Arabian Summerhouse Suite to give us ample room. The Suite was large, beautiful and even had a computer! The Hotel is in a stunning setting with access to a good variety of restaurants and the beach. The staff are helpful and approachable - a special shout out to our Butler in Villa 29 - Karim. He was so friendly, helpful and informative. Also Ishara who delighted us nightly with his wonderful towel animals and little treats. They could not do enough to make our stay as comfortable as possible. We met Ali Mirza, the Duty Manager when we were departing and he asked us when leaving a Review to comment on how our experience could have been improved upon. Three points. 1. We arrived around 7.30 am - we had arranged for a hotel car to pick us up at the airport. We had been travelling around 18 hours by the time we arrived so were very tired. We were met by staff who told us our Suite was not ready and ushered us down to the Premier Lounge for breakfast. We provided our telephone numbers to hotel staff who said they would call as soon as the room was ready. We were asked about a location preference for our Suite and we requested a quiet and secluded location. We had breakfast, explored the hotel & grounds and then returned to the Premier Lounge to await the call from Reception. 8 hours later our daughter was literally falling asleep on her feet so we went back to Reception to ask how much longer we would have to wait only to be told our Suite was ready and that someone had tried to call. We had been eagerly awaiting the call from Reception and had both been using our phones to email, text and phone so kept checking the phone logs - no call had been made to either of our phones. In addition we were sitting in the Premier Lounge in the afternoon where we had been left that morning. I explained this at Reception. They arranged for a buggy to take us to our room. When we arrived at the villa someone apologised for the error and offered us a bottle of wine. Nice gesture but it seemed lacking given our very long wait. We were delighted with our Suite when shown around until the patio doors were opened. Both our balconies looked directly onto the Italian restaurant and music was playing from the venue. The location of the room was not what we asked for and I told the butler this but she said the music would stop around 6. We took the room as we were so tired and just wanted to lie down. However, once we had a good nights sleep we did regret not asking for a move. The location of a room may seem a minor thing to the hotel but, for us, it helps make for a relaxing holiday particularly as we like to sit on the balcony first thing in the morning and late afternoon/evening. Having people look directly onto our balcony from the restaurant and rooftop lounge was uncomfortable and inhibited our use of the outside space. 2. Second point was in regard to the information provided about Dubai Parks. We asked the concierge in the hotel for information about the Dubai Parks and the Hotel’s courtesy bus indicating that our daughter wanted to visit Motiongate. We were given a brochure about the parks and pick-up/drop off times. There was nothing printed in any of the literature we were given about the Park opening and closing times so we presumed the hotel’s courtesy bus would be running during opening hours. Wrong. We arrived at the designated pick up point around 10ish in the morning and took the 45min journey to the Dubai Park. On arrival Park staff told us that MotionGate did not open until 3 pm. It was only due to luck that we caught the bus driver before he left and down to his kindness that he helped us and took us back to our hotel. Our daughter was quite upset so we said we would try again in the afternoon. The hotel shuttle bus timings meant we were dropped off along with some other guests at 2 pm. Nothing was open in the Parks to us until 3 pm. So we had to hang around in the heat for one hour. A security guard told us of a restaurant that was open and gave us directions so we sheltered in there out of the heat. A suggestion would be for the hotel to revise shuttle bus times to fit in with the timings of the Parks (Legoland and the Waterpark were open but our ticket did not provide access to these parks). 3. Emirates gave us, as part of our holiday, 500 UED credit towards food and drinks at the Park. However, we could not find out how to access this. We ended up paying for the food ourselves as the Park could not charge this to our room nor did it know about the Emirates offer. The Hotel also said they could not refund this as it was not their offer but Emirates. As I said at the start of the Review this is a lovely hotel. Great location, food, facilities and most of the staff have excellent customer service skills. I hope the points raised above helps the hotel improve their customer experience in the areas mentioned.

Return visit to this amazing destination

Southampton, United Kingdom

Have just returned from a 5 day stay at Dar al Masyaf (Villa 24) Oh my goodness the accommodation was great , as a group of 6 we really enjoyed the happy hour where we were served drinks and snacks by Ruth our Butler. Everything about this resort is fabulous , love the transportation around the resort which makes everything easily accessible. The only disappointment was our meal at Tortuga where service was so slow the food was cold by the time it was served to us . However I can highly recommend Alhambra the Spanish resturant . We went back a second time as food and service was so good.(Make sure you order the rice pudding)
