Wonderful Stay

San Diego, California

I enjoyed my stay here very much. You're part of a limited number of guests that stay here due to the limited number of large suites they have on property. The fruits and nuts in the room is a nice touch. If you're a high elite status guest, consider taking the welcome gift. Wonderful date box that I will provide to my parents for the holidays as a gift from this trip. You may have to ask for it, so ask. After our one-night stay here I was very relaxed at the conclusion of a long business trip ending just prior. Very peaceful environment, service, and stay. Great chance to freshen up before doing activities in Dubai.

Generally good, but with a critical exception. Plus non existent status recognition

The Al Maha Resort is about 70 km from Downtown Dubai, easily accessible via the D66 highway. The resort itself is beautifully located in the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve, and actually plays an active part in maintaining that reserve. The good: The hotel and the suite are beautifully and tastefully appointed in a style fitting to the region. Each suite comes with its own plunge pool. The feeling of being in your own pool in the middle of the desert is almost surreal. The staff is excellent, anticipating the guests needs. The meals are outstanding, very high quality, excellent taste. We had lunch and dinner in the restaurant, and breakfast on the terrace of the suite. Another almost surreal experience, with a Gazelle stopping by to see what's going on. The activities were very good too. There is a good selection of activities, most of them included in the full board, only the Desert Dune bash and another one activity I don't recall, had an extra charge. So that was all good. Unfortunately there were also areas which were decidedly not good, and I mention them primarily because they resulted in physical pain on my end. The Bad: The check in experience was definitely not great. On checkin I learned that I was apparently an Emirati from Dubai. Thanks for the honor, but its just me. After that was resolved we got into 'our' suite only to be greeted with yet another name. So I came under the impression that this was actually not the room which was originally assigned to us. This is relevant, because the bed in our suite was actually not very good, very soft on my side. Which resulted in me getting a very serious backpain after spending the night. It was so severe, that I was not sure if I could get back into my car for the trip home. The good news is, that after a bit more than a week my back almost recovered. The icing on the cake was, that the late checkout request for Platinum members, which we posted in advance as well at checkin was met with a "we'll check' only to be confirmed not to be available at Dinner in the evening. We were not surprised. Same goes for the Platinum amenity not provided. I summarize this with the words of my partner who stated when leaving: "Great experience, but no need to return"
