Unique experience

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

This resort is one hour drive from the airport. It is completely secluded and possibly the best desert resort in Dubai with 42 isolated villas. We do not recommended as a hub to visit Dubai city, as it is an one-hour trip. Access is possible with a sedan despite the fact that the last portion is gravels. November, February and March are probably the best season as temperature is mild and humidity is absent, provided Dubai authorities don't cloud-seed to create heavy rains. Anyway, at arrival, each party is welcomed separately and check-in is done unnoticed while seated in the atrium or in the majli sipping nice juices. The standard villa is a 7 meter wide (approx) hard octagon, with shaded sundeck. The outside private pool is infinity style of 7 meters (approx) in length. Not built for swimming exercise. It comes under shade only late in the afternoon. Access to the furthest villa may be well over 400 meters from the lobby / restaurant, but buggies will come on request. Each villa is rather well isolated. Best are those facing directly the desert. The back row villas are on a higher altitude, but not litterally isolated as other posters have pointed out. The room is large enough, and nicely decorated. Main furniture are : king size bed (or twin beds), large wardrobe, two love-seats, one low table, one small desk with a mirror. Lights are a little bit too low indoor and outdoor, especially while having dinner outside, all the more bizarre that there are already variators. Amenities : > WiFi is speedy enough to watch some movies at an acceptable definition. Strengh is OK as there is one router per villa. > several electrical outlets (British type) > Bluetooth Bose speaker > small fridge (prefilled) > Nespresso + tea sets > otherwise, usual things Bathroom : The bathroom is vast with a big bath, a rain shower, and a separated toilet / bidet. There are two sinks - a little bit small -, and we would have preferred a jacuzzi bath with view to the desert (Maldives style), but this may be for the next renovation ;-) We found the villa clean and very well maintained. Knowing that the Dubai extreme weather can damage outdoor coating in two seasons, this is rather a sign of quality product and good maintenance. The shade sail unsurprising seems suffering though. Anyway, the website says that rooms were refurbished in 2017. This explains that. All meals are taken at the restaurant. The main hall has 50 seatings approximately. We would have preferred a more cosy atmosphere (like a Michelin 3 stars), but, it was not a big issue thanks to the civilized behavior of the guests. Having meals outside may be an issue because of flies / mosquitoes. We asked for coffee grounds, but were turned away because, seemingly, it is not safe for health and food. EPA says otherwise though ... At least, we were not disturbed by flies at the villa. We appreciated : > stunning view > quality of activities > gazelle roaming next the villa > quality of meal > cleanliness > privacy and calm (no small children) > the possibility to have lunch / dinner in the room with the same menu. Improvement needed : > Marriott reservation center should pass on essential information (such as specific requests). Discovering that Al Maha doesn't have the proper data is disappointing, and even, irritating. > The owl master should realize that the "nihao" gag is not funny to non-chinese people when repeated four times. Putting emphasis on one nationality is not wise. > Pizza should come with olio di peperoncino (chilli oil). Overall, it is an unique experience if your budget allows.

Amazing location .. loved it

Vancouver, Canada

Stayed here recently for 3 nights and loved it ... service throughout was amazing from checkin through checkout. Loved the room, a little rustic but just felt right. We had just come from another desert hotel which had maybe a nicer room but we both enjoyed his one more. Great views .. loved the location and scenary. We were in villa 12 with a nice view if the watering hole. Lots of gazelles around the entire trip. Maybe a little too friendly as they were pretty much around us the entire trip. Breakfast was great, enjoyed dinners as well. The bar has 2-1 drinks from 6-8pm which was a good deal .. you even get canapes. Didn’t do lunch as breakfast and dinner was enough for us ... didn’t even order he full 3 courses provided at dinner each night as it was just too much food each day along with the snacks at afternoon tea time. As for excursions, went to the falcon show a few times. Different birds potentially each day. Camel ride was nice but only needed to do that once. Loved his hotel for sure, we travel alot but definitely will remember this place for sure and highly recommend it. We would return for sure.
