Great for families; Very accommodating for those with food allergies

ny, ny

Let me start by saying our party of eleven (7 adults and 4 children) had an amazing, memory filled, week at Beaches T&C in July 2018. While many of the gripes you may read about on TA are warranted, especially in consideration of the cost, the overall experience with the family was truly wonderful. We had several people with a variety of dietary conditions and chefs at all the restaurants went out their way to make it easy to work around. We found the staff, almost exclusively, to be friendly and committed to you having a great time. We can’t say enough about the Camp Sesame workers (including the performers) and the young man who (literally) dashed across the hot sand to run get my mother a bottle of water when he noticed she wasn’t looking great. Most of the food was good to excellent with plenty of variety. The pools were awesome and the beach… well, the beach was just incredible. So, why 2-stars? … We were expecting to arrive on Tuesday, July 10, 2018, the same day as then-Hurricane Beryl was due to strike just south of TCI. While the weather reports for were fluid, it was pretty clear that our arrival day was going to be messy and that there was a decent chance that for a few days after it would be a mixture of clouds, high winds, and spotty storms. In anticipation of this, on Saturday, July 7, 2018, I spoke with the Beaches 1-800 number to do discuss alternatives for changing dates. I was expressly told that if we changed to another date, within a year’s time, that we would be charged only a difference in room rate, as may be applicable. HOWEVER, I was also expressly told that if our flight was moved because of weather or if we just wanted to adjust by a day or two that Beaches would accommodate us at no cost. On Monday, July 9, 2018, the day before our trip, and in consideration of the representations made above and a much improved forecast for the week (except for our arrival day on July 10), I spoke with our airline and they agreed to push back our flights by 1-day each and waive the “change fee” only charging a difference in rate (About $600 total – which to avoid a wash-out day on a $20K vacation was a relative no-brainer). However, when I called Beaches back to adjust our reservations by one day they said there was NO availability for any room in the entire resort and thus they could not accommodate us --- Now, it is fair to say that I could have confirmed one more time with beaches before switching our airline tickets BUT the information was only about 36 hrs old and at no point during my previous call did the Beaches representative even allude to the possibility that resort could be “full” which, understand the circumstances, doesn’t seem unreasonable to expect… Plus, it was a complete LIE because as I was being told by the service representative there were NO availability I was staring at their website which showed several similar rooms still open. Even after being told this the representative just kept repeating that there was no availability. I told them we would all move rooms at any point during our week to make this work or pay a higher rate for a more expensive room if need be… At every turn the answer was no, the waiting was brutal, and the inability to actually speak with anybody at the resort itself was unprofessional. When explaining why we had switched our airline ticket (based upon the assurance of their own staff that we could be accommodated for a one or two day adjustment) they simply didn’t care and told us that we would forfeit the 1st night if we didn’t show up (a few thousand dollars!). The lack of care or even attempt by Beaches to do anything helpful was simply outrageous! It’s one thing to say “no,” it’s quite another to take ZERO responsibility, do ZERO to try to help, and show NO care whatsoever. We wound up switching our airline tickets back (and getting a credit for the $ we spend on the original switch)… And, as mentioned above we had a fabulous time. It is a special place and if you can make it there prioritize spending as many days as possible vs. level of accommodation. Just hope that you don’t have any issues with your planning because Beaches won’t give a dam once you are within their cancellation window and will be just as happy to hold your money hostage --- at least they’ll sound cheery on the phone while doing so.

Yes, the water really is that color!

Omaha, Nebraska

If you're on the fence about going, don't be! You will not regret going but you will if you don't. The pictures you see of the beaches and water really do look like that in person It's breathtaking. Definitely a bucket list trip. So enough gushing about the beautiful scenery; the resort. Beaches Turks and Caicos was great! The grounds are nicely kept up, very clean and maintained. We stayed at the Caribbean Village which is steps from the beach. It's an older part of the resort but we didn't stay in our room very often so it was really okay. Our housekeeping crew did a wonderful job of keeping up with us and always made sure our room had plenty of towels and wine:) The pool we frequented was Cascades where you can find Bishop and Whitfield. Be sure and find them! They not only make yummy drinks like Pina Coladas and a dirty banana but they provide entertainment you won't soon forget. Just steps from the pool is the beach so we'd go in between the two to stay cool. The first day we arrives we ate at the Jerk Shack. It was sooo good! My niece didn't want anything there and asked for a hot dog which they didn't have. When our order arrived, our server put two hot dogs down for her. So kind! I wish I'd remembered her name but having just arrived we were so taken by the scenery and the service it slipped our minds. What a wonderful start to our trip! One of the best meals was at Kimonos (make your reservation as soon as you get to the resort as it fills up fast). We'd been to this type of restaurant in the states but this was by far the best we've ever had ~ don't miss it! Sky was both tasty and had beautiful views. Arizona's had a wonderful steak dinner...yes, steak! We were surprised at the quality and taste of the steaks there. The only negative I have about the food was that the breakfasts were just okay but the lunch and dinners more than made up for it. I wish there'd been more shellfish but I think we were told something about it not being in season for the islands? I'm not sure if that was true or not I imagined it. There's a little stand right across from Cascades that served grilled chicken and steak with all the fixings for fajitas. Don't miss this! So fresh and tasty. If you like snorkeling, be sure to walk about 15 minutes down the beach just outside of the resort. The coral reef there was beautiful and an easy swim. We chose to do that instead of doing the snorkeling the resort offered. Nothing against the resort's reef, we'd just read so many other reviews of this coral reef so we gave it a go and were not disappointed. I could go on and on about this but it wouldn't do it justice. It's a wonderful place with the friendliest of staff and breathtaking views. You will really enjoy it. What are you waiting for, go!
