Keemala

Spectacular resort inspired by Thai mythology

Nestled in glorious greenery, Keemala aims to transport their guests to a mythical world where a fantasy-like construction of bungalows perches on the hills of Kamala.  Only a short drive from Patong beach, Keemala is like no other resort on Phuket, due to its architecture and experiences on offer.

The pool villas come in four separate styles - clay and straw cottages, tent villas, tree houses and bird's nest villas - each one representing a clan of fictitious early Phuket settlers: Pa-ta-Pea’ (Earth), the ‘Khon-Jorn’ (Wanderers), the ‘We-Ha’ (Sky), and the ‘Rung-Nok’ (Nest) people.

The Mala Spa has eight pod-like treatment rooms scattered in the gardens – this serene oasis offers traditional Thai Therapies alongside more unusual remedies like raindrop healing and energy re-balancing and integrative bodywork. The hotel offers a holistic activity schedule with daily yoga, Thai boxing, aqua Thai Chi, circuit conditioning, holistic nutrition, meditation and much more.

Keemala has just one restaurant – Su Tha – which serves a delectable Thai, international and Indian cuisine. Meals can also be taken in your room or by the pool if you would prefer a change of scenery.

Part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World, Keemala is the perfect place for honeymooners, couples and families wishing to get away from it all whilst making it as busy or relaxed as you wish.

Amazing Wellness Retreat in the Phuket Hills

Chicago, Illinois

Keemala is an incredibly beautiful and relaxing resort focused on wellness located in the hills outside of Kamala beach. We experienced true relaxation the entire time we were there, starting from the pickup at the airport. For 2,000 THB they will pick you up in a Hummer at the Phuket airport. Our driver was waiting outside of arrivals for us and had cold towels and water ready for us in the car. It's about a 45 minute drive so it was nice to worry about calling a taxi and explaining where we were going. Our concierge, Lift, was excellent to us. He met us at the entrance and gave us a tour of the resort. He went above and beyond by getting us in to the Indian tasting dinner which started only 1 hour after we arrived. Indian is our favorite cuisine so this was an excellent welcome dinner for us. Rooms are simply incredible! Every room has a view and most rooms have a private pool. We booked our room on points and paid cash to upgrade to their top room, the Bird's Nest Pool Villa (#703). Our room was extremely private; nobody could see in to our room or pool. We had unobstructed views of the entire town and beach and could even see a temple off in the distance. We found food and beverage to be excellent at the resort. Something we really liked was how in-villa hot breakfast was included with every room. We ordered breakfast-in-bed every morning which was excellent. Prices are quite reasonable for food; a dinner for two with wine cost us less than $50 and all menu prices include taxes and 10% service charge. Highly recommend taking advantage of their happy hours, which run a combined 2pm-6pm between the pool and the bar. Drinks are BOGO during this time so it's possible to get 2 expertly crafted cocktails for about 350 THB ($10-11), which is a steal. One thing that disappointed us a little was the closure of the Mala Spa while we were there. Unfortunately, the Phuket government announced the closure of all spas due to COVID-19 the day we arrived. We really wanted to experience the Thai signing bowl therapy while we were there and were unable to do so. Overall we still really enjoyed our stay and found that it most closely compared to our recent experience in the Maldives in terms of relaxation and quality of amenities. Truly an impressive and unique resort. We felt far more relaxed and focused when leaving and decided that we will definitely return!

Stunning Treehouse retreat in Phuket

This hotel has to rank amongst the top few hotels in the world. The treehouses are stunning and having a private pool right outside your room perched in the trees is an experience not to be missed. Spending time here is a serene break from the hectic world we live in. The staff, food, and location are second to none. Treat yourself to a stay in Keemala you won’t be disappointed. This was our 2nd stay and we will be back again.

Room Types

Tent Pool Villa

The tent pool villas are a reflection of the ‘Khon-Jorn’ clan’s adventurous nature - foragers, herders, traders and explorers.

Filled with textures inspired by the clans lifestyle, each tent-like-structure has a luxurious canopied master bed, oak furniture and varnished wooden floors. The huge master bedroom leads through sliding glass doors onto the infinity pool and lounge beds outside – there’s also a spectacular view over Kamala bay.

Tree Pool House

The “We-ha” people lived in homes suspended from trees, and worshipped the universe. This is the fictional story that inspired the design of the Tree Pool House.

You will have an enormous 169 square metres of spectacular living space, laid out over two floors. The interiors of the seven Tree Pool Houses incorporate suspended furniture and cocoon-like beds and loungers.

The Tree House's offer rain forest and resort views, as well as having a spacious bathroom with an immense monsoon shower, outside shower, guest washroom and a stand-alone bathtub. Complete with a private pool and outdoor sun terrace, this really is a very special place.

Clay Pool Cottage 1 Bedroom

The Clay Pool Villas are set lower down in the forest and offer beautiful views over the surrounding nature. Inspired by the culture of the ‘Pa-Ta-Pea’ clan, who were farmers, gardeners and carpenters, the interiors are sleek and luxurious, with furniture being made from wood and other natural materials.

Take a dip in your private pool, or simply chill out on your poolside terrace and listen to the sounds of the forest.
