Nice/Clean/Friendly staff - Way Way overated!

Chesterfield, United Kingdom

We received a nice friendly welcome when we arrived into the hotel. We checked in with no dramas and first impressions of the hotel were good :). We then got lead to our room and once the door opened our jaws dropped..... the room was awful. We had booked a superior room so you would expect it to be decent enough to accommodate for 7 nights... Far from it. The room was very small and dark/gloomy, no view at all from the balcony except leafy greenery which was growing overhanging onto the balcony which obviously attracted a variety of insects around the area.. The biggest issue was the smell of the room, I am far from the fussiest of guests but I could not simply stay in there, the smell was awful. The air con unit obviously had issues and was pumping fusty/damp scents around the room which really did hit you in the face, we only had half hour in that room and already felt ill with the dampness and smell. We complained and demanded we got moved rooms, just basically somewhere that didn't smell, either move rooms or move hotels. The manager Oliver came to our room to deal with our issues and he did this very professionally and in a swift manor. He moved us to a junior suite which are situated in a different building (to the side of the hotel) already walking up the stairs to the room the whole feel and vibe was a lot better and fresher. We opened the door to the junior suite and I can say it was a thousand times better, although I must say I would of expected this room in the first place to be honest, the junior suite is what I would call a standard room, it seems they have got there room classifications wrong and they have made judgments one above of what they should be i.e. junior suite is a superior room etc. etc. We was happy to stay in the junior suite all week and the bed/pillows was probably thee comfiest I have ever stayed in!. I can appreciate we came slightly off season (mid may) but the hotel was very very quiet, of course the bonus to that is.. good quick service/plenty sunbeds etc, but it was simply just too quiet especially at night, hardly any atmosphere at all, and the entertainment was very very poor. The breakfast was decent enough but not great, and for Thailand the food/drink at the hotel is a little overpriced. House keeping staff excellent and in general all staff friendly and accommodating. Decent relaxing stay in cape Panwa Hotel but I would not return 6/10 from myself :)

Pretty setting

This is one of the finest set hotel in the quiet side of Phuket where 5 stars means 5 stars!! The staff go an extra mile to please and keep you happy - with a smile. It is kept very clean throughout the day. The breakfast is out of this world with so much choice. The private beach setting is beautiful and ample sun beds. The in house restaurants are also of high standard, although down to the cape ( free 5 minute shuttle) there are very good restaurants and a small market every evening selling very clean street food and gifts etc... Loads of good Thai massage joints walking distance from the hotel
