Fantastic

London, United Kingdom

We will classify this as one of our very good holidays. It lives up to its five star reputation. The rooms are spacious and clean, the views are lovely, the atmosphere is calming. It's hidden away on a hill away from the noise of the city. It has its own private beach which is an extra bonus. The staff are very efficient and friendly. A very special mention to Jennifer at the breakfast restaurant who made our stay enjoyable. Also Simon the manager and the the rest of the team. When next we visit Thailand we would be definitely staying here as we have fallen in love with this place.

Relaxing resort in beautiful surroundings

Cairns, Australia

We had booked a 7 night Luxury Escapes package and had upgraded our room to a Cape Suite. Transfers had been organised by the hotel and our driver was waiting despite our connecting flight being 90 minutes late. All meals were included in our package. Our suite was spacious and well appointed. Housekeeping was excellent and our suite was attended every morning while we were at breakfast. We did have a good sized balcony with water views. We only sat there one afternoon as we unfortunately were constantly being swooped by the Indian Myna birds. This was not a pleasant experience. Breakfast each morning was a buffet in Cafe Andaman and it was quite extensive. On our first morning I had put my plate of food on the table and just walked about ten steps to get a knife. I turned around and found three birds in my plate of food. I was so disgusted that I had to leave without breakfast that morning. These birds are an absolute menace in this area. The staff are constantly trying to shoo them away with little luck as it is an open area and these birds are lightening fast. If you could manage breakfast without the birds getting it first, then the rest of the day improved. The resort is large and spread over many acres. The Bamboo Bar was located on the beachfront and the little train was a great addition to get you up and down the steep hill. We always had lunch here and it was so peaceful looking out to sea and watching the boats. The food and the staff here were excellent. Our favourite restaurant for dinner was "Top of the Reef" which was fine dining with either a set menu or a la carte. Beside this restaurant was "Otter's Bar" which was also our favourite to enjoy a drink before or after dinner. There was a young lady here who played the piano and sang with an amazing voice. We enjoyed dinner twice at the Italian restaurant located in the village at the sister property. The addition of the complimentary shuttle bus to take you over the very steep hill was fantastic and enjoyed by every guest without doubt. Dining in the beautiful old "Panwa House" down on the waters edge was just lovely. Massages were also included in our package and were very enjoyable. The Spa is a beautiful and calming space. The fitness centre is very small and attached to the departure lounge. There were many children running in and out screaming which was not pleasant when trying to workout. The treadmills and bikes were new. Every other piece of equipment was really old and there was not even a rowing machine. It was particularly hot when I was there and I mentioned it to the guy when I handed in my towel as he sits in the lounge where the A/C works. He checked the temperature in the fitness area and it was a hot 28 Celsius. This is not a temperature that is pleasant to workout in and should have been a lot lower. I was so uninspired by this fitness area that I couldn't bring myself to go back there. One evening we called into the "Lighthouse Bar" to have a drink. It was happy hour and so we ordered a white and red wine, thinking that we would therefore only pay for one drink. To our surprise we were given two red wines and two white wines. We laughed it off as just another funny thing which happens when one travels. The three piece band had just started and we thoroughly enjoyed the great music they played, as well as our two wines. We had a very relaxing week here in beautiful surroundings. The food was very good and perhaps too plentiful. Our only criticism is the dreadful myna birds which are everywhere and make having breakfast in Cafe Andaman a real challenge.
