Five days with five year old and 18 month old

Melbourne, Australia

Just wrapping up our five day stay at the holiday inn during rainy season... it’s been glorious. The resort has met just about all our expectations. The room: beachfront bungalow (107) perfect location, small path between us and the beach. Easy walk to pool and restaurant. On first entering it seem quite dated with a funny plastic/lino type floor, but in fact, very practical given the sand we have been unable to avoid tramping in! The room fitted is really well with a single bed for our five year old and a comfy porta-cot for the one year old. Air con worked a dream. Bedding and towels were all comfy. The bathroom was average, water pressure terrible but it did the job and it seems a pretty fair ‘fault’ given the location of this resort. The deck area was perfect for our evenings enjoying a couple drinks while kids asleep. Not child proofed. But we wanted room door shut anyway as the mossies were pesky. The bungalow steps got the better of me after a torrential down-pour and I slipped down all of them. I am lucky that it wasn’t worse. The pool: we would have ideally found a shallower pool! Both of the family pools were a minimum of two foot deep which was no good for our little one. We could have done with six inches max! And for the older one, he struggled to touch much of the bottom too so swimming was pretty hands on for us! (Not that we would leave either given their ages!) The beach: beautiful. At high and low tide. Loved the enormous roped off section that was boat free for swimming splashing and snorkelling. This was a real bonus as most of the time at Thai beaches, phi phi included, you Lee having to check for where the bot noise is coming from. The water turned crystal clear after two days with no rain. It was just beautiful to be in and very suitable for young kids. Lapping waves only and nice gradual slope. Resort location: worked for us. I was worried about being cut off, but the fact that there are three/four non hotel restaurants and a small shop on the beach next door to hotel really helped. Price wise I was a bit surprised at the cost of these other restaurants though, it was very close to the hotel resort prices. But different, and still worth doing. For water and balcony beers the shop was great. 120baht for a big singha or 40baht for a can of soft drink. We also walked to the little village near the phi phi island resort twice and got a taxi motorbike back. Cheaper food, lots of massage, cheaper mini-market, lots of massage. It would have been possible to get a taxi both ways but the walk was nice. We took the stroller and it took 30mins. Just tricky to get out the resort which required directions first time!! Resort meals: all three restaurants serve the same food. It is excellent quality and we enjoyed all our meals. We are buffet breakfast each day which surpassed our expectations, and daily lunch too. Kids eat free, which is awesome! Kids ate burgers, pop corn chicken with corn and mash, noodles with tofu, stir-fry, spaghetti bolognese, fried rice... this doesn’t cover half the options. Boat trips: we decided to just wing getting a boat for a trip so we could make our plans based on when we got our act together in the morning, and the weather! This worked really well. Just on beach outside resort we’re several longtail boats and haggling over price really wasn’t complicated as they know what the resort charges! We did two trips. Bamboo island for two hours and then three hours to monkey bay and loh moo Dee beach. Both trips were excellent, in both cases we had a short period of time by ourselves before about a million speedboats turned up! I would recommend heading out early as you can to avoid the masses as much as possible... and this is low season! All in all, a very successful trip.

Super Chilled 2 weeks of heaven!

Kingston-upon-Hull, United Kingdom

Ok, this is my first review on Tripadvisor. Myself and my better half stayed at the Holiday Inn in March 2018 and where located in room 300 (garden bungalow). Only a stones throw away from the beach and close to all the amenities. The location is stunning, wildlife is in abundance and if snorkeling is something you're interested in then you won't be disappointed with a myriad of aquatic species from Sting rays to clown fish and everything in between! I'll start off with the bungalow, yes it's dated, the shower has about the same pressure as you'd find in a 6 month old party balloon BUT it has everything you need and to be fair you're just sleeping in it. Aircon is good and can be left on all the time (not like some hotels that have the aircon key attached to the room key so when you leave the room for the day the aircon goes off) and kept the room nice and cool all the time. If this would be a problem for you I'd suggest upgrading to a newer bungalow/apartment but for ourselves the room was secondary and it's all about location, location, location. The Staff. All I can say is excellent, always willing to help, always a good morning with a smile. I've read some negative reviews reference this and I honestly cant understand why? Maybe it's actually you and not the staff? :D There's so many people to mention from the guys and girls at breakfast to the grounds keepers walking around in their wellington boots! Just looking at them made my feet feel like melting! Special mention goes out to head chef Ramesh, a lovely chef whose passionate about his job and is more than happy to talk about how the food is prepared and made, we're returning in 2019 Ramesh so expect to have your brain picked yet again! The food is pricey for thailand BUT, from the buffets, to the pizza it's high quality and the chefs and waiting staff put in a lot of hard work so that you enjoy the experience, You can try the surrounding eateries for a change but the prices are not too different and the quality not up to the same standard unless you venture to the little village but more on this later. The beach itself is stunning, clean and not overcrowded, in fact there's only ever a handfull of people swimming at anyone time! if you're a beach person then you'll be in paradise and I couldn't fault it at all. In fact the whole holiday was the best we've ever had, from the location to the staff everything came together for an amazing experience! We also made friends with a couple of cats and hope they'll be there when we return ( I want the cats to adopt us so we don't have to return home!) something very theraputic abouts cats and I'm a dog person! Anyway enough of the waffle, we loved it so much we're returning for another 2 weeks at the begining of March 2019, some people may think the bungalows are a bit dated and I can understand that but myself and the better half don't have a problem with them in fact we would like the same room when we return (hint hint :D) or a seafront bungalow...not fussy :D Thanks to all of you that made our holiday an amazong experience! TIPS:- If you walk to the right from the hotel (Heading down the Tsunami evacuation route) you can talk a walk to a village that has a myriad of shops and bars etc it'll take about 25 mins to get there at a leisurely pace taking in the views or you can get a motorbike taxi it's worth going just to visit Red Tuna restraunt which I think is a must and I wish we'd found it earlier, if you go there thank me later :D The guy who runs it (called Tuna!) takes massive pride in his food and his plates are an art form! Try and get the phuket lobster (amazingly cheap!). It also has minimarts so you can stock up on anything you need without the need to go to Tonsai.
