Everything was perfect

Illinois

My family just ended a 5 day stay and we had a such wonderful and relaxing time. We have stayed at other RCs, MOs, Four Seasons but this hotel’s service is the best. We booked the hotel 12 hours before landing (it was a sudden change in destination) and I called the hotel at 10pm about a speedboat transfer (we were to land at 9am the next morning). I was half expecting them to say it wasn’t possible to arrange but it was done - this was the beginnng of a stay which had no “no’s” to any request we had. The early check in and upgrades were unexpected but lovely. The food at breakfast was fantastic - most hotel breakfast buffets usually have a few hits and misses but here, I thought everything was so delicious! The staff were always so kind to our kids and they enjoyed the fish-feeding every morning. The service at the hotel was outstanding, especially the breakfast team and my villa’s butler Sa Bai. Every single request we had was attended to by her promptly and with a smile. The communication between staff and the execution of the guest’s requests were flawless. Even at the last interaction with the staff, when we were leaving, the staff were impeccable. We had booked a hotel transfer and were expecting an Alphard (as we had transferred earlier via that) but the supplier had given a Toyota instead. The van’s aircon was not as cool as we would have liked, and we asked if the van could be changed at the last minute. Tom was absolutely amazing - he made some calls and although the supplier could not change the van, he arranged the hotel’s own luxury van and driver to bring us all the way to Phuket airport. This was when I truly felt the hotel had surpassed itself - i have stayed in many hotels before, including Mandapa, and this commitment to keeping the guests happy shone through. It would have been easy for the hotel to say no other van available etc. but the staff stepped up once again. In the midst of the confusion and rush when leaving the hotel, my only regret was not being able to thank Sabai for her kind assistance - her name is as beautiful as her! The next time we want a stay at a Thailand beach resort - it will be here. My advice - it’s worth the price and you won’t regret it.

One of the best 5 star experience I have ever had. A warm thank you to the incredible staff.

I am literally writing this review in the back of the car on the way to the airport, when normally I never ever write any reviews - such is my desire to just communicate how absolutely excellent this hotel is. I've been lucky to travel all over the world (90+ Four Seasons properties, 200+ Leading Hotels of the World). In the beginning, there was no question for me that Ritz Phulay Bay was the very best hotel I'd ever stayed in - there ended up being two hiccups (the macho food & beverage guy who behaved in a totally inappropriate manner, and then they forced me to sign my bill in the few seconds I had pre departure as I was already running super late for my flight, not allowing me to have my assistant follow up and handle - I thought that was a bit ridiculous given I'm an SPG Platinum guest and given they had my credit card - were they afraid I would run off without paying ...? That lack of trust left an unpleasant taste) - but those really were details in what overall was unbelievable. I am very picky and difficult, and I was just absolutely blown away by everything. Of course the villas and the whole resort are compeltely over the top and gorgeous and beautiful; that's not really a differentiator though since whenever you travel to a top tropical holiday destination and stay in the nicest hotel option available, you'll probably have gorgeous grounds (the property here I would compare to the Four Seasons resorts in Bali and Koh Samui). What made this extraordinary is the staff and their training. Someone random that you've never met or seen will cross your path, offer you a buggy ride, and know so many things about you! There's 54 villas, which is not that many, but still - the staff must be memorizing a crazy amount of facts and faces. It's very impressive. I was there for only 2 days, yet everyone seemed to know me. It felt very special. The other thing that made the property stand out was the way that they handled the incident with that Macho food manager. They addressed it immediately, fixed the situation, a wonderful gentleman named Nathan who is in senior management came to apologize, and he offered me a free mani pedi and a massage. I thought that was super generous. It wasn't really about the free stuff, but the way in which he apologized was so kind and warm and heartfelt, I could tell he really meant it. Just that apology would have been enough by itself, and then the free treatments of course were much appreciated. And then it's just the nice little touches here and there; e.g. the vehicle they pick you up in has fresh juices, cold towels, water, wifi, massage chairs, and they even ask you pre arrival what sort of music you'd like to have playing in the car (they have a menu). There's just SO much attention to detail, and that level of detail is reflected in everything, from the gorgeously beautiful rooms, to how amazing they tidy up, to the person they give you who's available on what's app or however you want to contact him 24/7 (and who calls you Krab = king) - it's just compeltely over the top and so absurdly nice. That person for all intents and purposes is the same as any butler you get at nice hotels, but I would never call the guy butler, he became more like a friend. They are so well trained and know how to walk that very fine line between being very respectful and not crossing lines, but still making you feel warm and welcome and friendly and at home. I feel I am not doing the hotel justice in writing this review; I'm having a hard time capturing it all in words and I'm a bad writer (this is why I don't write reviews!). You need to go experience it yourself. But to sum it up, while of course it's one of the most gorgeous and beautiful hotels I've ever stayed in, what places it in the absolute global elite is the people and the level of service. It is sheer unbelievable and I cannot wait to return. I think I found the place I want to get married at.
