Beautiful location. Needs some TLC

Miami, Florida

What can I say, the location is paradise. The staff are lovely and accommodating. The food was well above average but not remarkable. Check in took a really long time and we were told we could only have 1 room key as this was their policy. Made it complicated to split up to do things and share a key. Quick walk to a nearby town with nice little restaurants and shops. Rooms are stunning but due for some refinishing of the wood, starting to look a bit run down. Spa was amazing and the treatments were very reasonably priced. Island is only accessible by boat and there are several options. We paid about $30.00 USD each way to get here. It would be nice if the resort offered this as a courtesy, would have paid more for inclusive transport so we didn’t have to figure it out.

Beautiful hotel away from it all

New York

We stayed for a week in the Santhiya Koh Yoa Yai and we had an amazing time. After reading the comments on Trip advisor we were unsure if that would be the right hotel for our stay but we booked it still due to how beautiful the resort and rooms were. And we were not disappointed. The hotel and the room especially were out of this world. We were staying in a Private Villa (highly recommended) and WOW. Beautiful furniture, spacious, private, great pool and terrace and the view, breathtaking. We gave the hotel a 5 out of 5, only because given it a 4 would not feel right. He would probably deserve more a 4.5 but as this is not an option we went for 5/5. I will echo what some people have commented about in other feedback. While our Villa was just amazing if you turned to the right we had full views of the other houses underbelly (see pics)…. Not a pretty sight… it is a real shame and just having something to block the view would have made a huge difference as it really did not look good, but we choose to keep looking ahead rather than to the right. There are 7 restaurants in the hotel with distinct and different styles (beach, high in one of the hotel with views, by the pool, by the pier, etc…) and while they were nice and delicious after a week we were running out of options as some of them served the same food. Also the wine is very expensive for what you get. While I do not mind paying $80/$100 for a bottle of wine, for that price I would expect something half decent. We followed the advice from others and brought champagne and spirit at the airport (when you arrive and before getting your suitcase). The shop on the hotel do not sell alcohol so you can only have the one your brought or the one you get from the Bar/Restaurant. Otherwise Thai beers were good and affordable. The breakfast buffet was great with a lot of delicious fruits and Thai specialties. We had the buffet one night and did not repeat. The service was very good, sometimes seemed a bit all over the place in some restaurant (by the beach) but everyone was very friendly and doing their best, we did not mind and thought the staff to be very polite and helpful. We had booked the private dinner by the beach but due to the weather (we had 3 days of bad weather, one of them being really bad, very very windy and a lot of rain) so that was canceled and we had our private dinner by the pool. While it was very nice, might not be worth the money we spent (about $400) but it was special occasion and we have great memories, so I guess that count. Our tours were also canceled, so we did spent the day (well 3 hours) in the Spa. We loved it, we had our private SPA house and we got the couple package, body wrap, facial and pedicure. Well worth it. We had a fantastic time, real pampered. There are 2 pools in the hotel, one by one of the hotel quite high with amazing views and one by the beach, very big and with a waterfall and great boat sun beds. There are little trucks carrying you from one place to the others as the hotel is spread out. Not that everything is far but it is quite steep. You can call them but we did found it annoying to wait, you can catch them as they pass but choose to walk most of the time (a bit of exercise). Unless it was after dinner and we did wait for them as the walk seemed impossible. We did book the hotel pick up and boat. Someone was at the airport; we were put on a bus and then waiting in a private lounge at the port. The boat was very nice, small and comfortable. The views of the hotel as you approach the island are well worth it. So to recap, we recommend this hotel if you fancy some time away from it all, in a beautiful setting with beautiful Villas. We really enjoyed our stay, thank you to everyone at the Santhiya Koh Yoa Yai.
