Kids and Parents paradise!

At the end of October I treated my family to a 2 night stay at santhiya Koh Yao Yai. We didn’t use their transfer as we found it a tad expensive for the 6 of us, which included my parents, twins, husband and myself. Instead we took a local transfer boat across from jenniewitch/chaniwich pier and a lovely guy named me Bernie dropped us at the front gate. From the moment you arrive the place is stunning ! Giant wooden doors and a wooden transfer car to meet you. We walked on the wooden path and past all the amazing koi fish to reception. They met us with cool drinks and cold towels while they sorted out our rooms. We were lucky enough to have one room ready quite early. A concierge was then assigned to us and on the way to the pick up and drop off point ( this is where they have the wooden cars to take you to and from your room as it is quite far). The concierge showed us the amazing pool, restaurants on the beach and much more. Upon arriving at the room we were all stunned ! The pure architecture and detail is astounding. Then the view !!! It is literally heaven on earth. We payed an extra 350b per child per night to have the girls beds made up. One on the sofa and one had a mattress on the floor. We had a bit of a mix up getting the beds sorted but it was eventually resolved. The rooms are more than big enough - we had a grand deluxe ocean and my parents a supreme deluxe. Either could have fitted the 4 of us. My husband and I used the bath on the balcony and my only regret is forgetting to take a picture lol. The bathroom was huge and the little details in the shower and around the room were great. They had mosquito nets and mosquito incense burning in little pots. I thought this was great and we had no mosquito issues. The rooms all had a beach bag to use, slippers and gowns. The beach bag was super handy to use ! We ate at Titan restaurant on the beach most of the time. The reason we did this was that the food was absolutely delicious ! I honestly was not expecting a burger to taste so good ! We also went on the jazz night but felt the songs were pretty much the same as the night before and the singers seemed a bit disinterested, but to be honest with the amazing view and great staff it couldn’t possibley dampen it. Now the good stuff !! KIDS CLUB. I have looked into all the other santhiyas and this is the only one with a kids club! Not just any kids club but possibly the best kids club I’ve ever seen. My 4 year old twins loved it so much. The girls had a choice of slides, trampoline, merry go round, obstacle courses, guns that shoot balls and sooooo much more. Think indoor playground or Nickelodeon section at dream world gold coast. My girls were 4 and the rule is if they are between 110 to 150cm they can be left there to be supervised. They also need to speak some English. They can be left there all day if you wish and you need to tell them where you will be. We left the girls a few hours, then would get them for lunch and if they wanted to go back in after they could or sometimes have a swim. They have a little eating area for the kids so we would take snacks and a drink for them. The first day the girls went through alll their snacks like wild beasts and Mei actually shared her donut with them ! I thought this was so sweet and lovely of her. She looked after the girls so well and made sure they had a great time ! On the last day we couldn’t get the girls out of there. So big shout out to Mei and santhiya for an amazing kids club for our girls !! Outside the kids club they have buffalos that come each morning. I did feel sorry for them because it was quite hot but they seem to be used to it and enjoyed sitting in the cool mud. Mei took the girls to have a look one morning as did we. Whilst the girls where in kids club my husband and I tried paddle boarding at the beach. All included and much harder than it looked lol. In the morning we had the buffet breakfast and it was insanely good ! The best we have had in Thailand. The selection is fantastic and they have their own barista to make coffees. My mum and husband said they had the best latte of their life here. The view from here is once again amazing and I could of sat having breakfast there alll day. We tested out the infinity pool one day and enjoyed the day beds and drinks ! We watched a storm roll right around us, felt like we are at the edge of the world. Our checkout was quick and efficient. We rang down and they came to collect our bags for us. We travelled back the same way we came. The tuk tuk was about 600b and the local boat back was 1000b for adults and 100b for children. It was an adventure and we loved going through the little towns and seeing all the local people. This is honestly the best hotel we have ever stayed at. Special thanks to Mei for taking care of our girls! If you have stayed at a better hotel then firstly, where ? Secondly, I don’t believe you ! And thirdly get your head checked. Thank you Santhiya I will be back !

Close but not quite 5 star

We stayed in mid November for just two nights. The hotel had been very helpful in arranging a transfer for us from Chong Lad Pier and along with a few other guests we arrived about two hours before official check in time. Check in and check out were my bug bears for this resort. Everything was a process, not an individual service. We were welcomed into a building, offered cold towels and a drink. Handed over our passports and credit card. Got given our room number and various vouchers, upsell on spa services, and eventually (after 40 mins) were told our room isn’t ready yet - totally fine as we knew we were early. We went off to get a couple of drinks and came back to get our room key shortly after the allotted time of 2pm. We got herded into another room, asked for credit card again despite us showing the staff the envelope that we had received on check in. We told, it’s another part of the process! After explaining three more times that we had already checked in we eventually got a key, got the bus up the hill and got into our room at about 3.15! Check out was a similarly painful affair. We had a pick up at 11.30 so we headed to reception to check out at 10.30! Other than that, the resort was beautiful, the infinity pool amazing, the views from our room spectacular. Food was good, drinks service was a bit slow. The buses to get everywhere worked but the hills were very steep and I didn’t always feel comfortable in the bus! It’s worth a visit for a few days, the views alone are worth it. To make it five star I think the service needs to be individual to each customers needs (we’re not all a process to complete).
