We must be in Paradise

Wales

We were here for five nights - and so wish we could have stayed longer. THINGS TO DO ....We would have loved to have done several of the excursions but as time was limited we chose to simply relax on the beach at this very peaceful resort. If you want partying and liveliness this is NOT the place to come. If you want to relax and listen to the surf wash on the shore accompanied by the calls of bird in the trees surrounding the resort, then come. PRICES AT THE RESORT...we read reviews prior to the visit re cost. Yes - true - you are a captive audience and the prices are not 'cheap' ... but they are not outrageous either. You will pay more or less what you would at home (uk) for the meals and drinks, but bear in mind the resort is completely secluded and everything you are consuming, and the staff who serve you have to be transported some distance across the sea, & travel here across land isn't really an option as the roads are challenging ! We didn't experience the 45 minute trip to the local small village but fellow guests described it as like a fun fair ride. If you want to save some money on drinks / snacks etc. then bring stuff with you from Phuket before travelling to the island. TRAVELLING TO THE ISLAND .... we booked the 40 minute private transfer provided by the resort which was by their private speed boat from a private marina about 25 minutes from Phuket airport. I get sea sick but the journey was speedy, and relatively smooth and I had no problems. It wasn't a cheap option - but as I said before travel across land from the public ferry to the south isn't really an option. The boat ride was an excursion in itself, with great views of the limestone islands in the bay. ACCOMMODATION - Varied. The new Treetops area is apparently very high tech. We were in the original part of the resort and the accommodation was simpler, but in my opinion lovely. It was simple and stylish. Spotlessly clean. Air conditioned. Fridge with small freezer compartment. Safe in room, T.V, A very firm, very compfortable bed. Outdoor patio area adjacent to an outdoor/indoor shower which was bliss. If you want something more plush and high end you’d probably be best to book a Tree top villa or find a different resort. Accommodation is in a mix of ‘villas’ and ‘apartments', set throughout the landscape, and surrounded by trees and plants. Some villas are level with the beach. These consist of the shore front villas which have the private (small) 'swimming' pools. Behind these are the basic/ standard 'villas' which are set back from the shore, we stayed in one of these. Upgrading to a sea front villa from our basic villa, for four nights, would have cost us an additional £1000. As it was we had a brief walk of about 1 minutes along romantic pathways, to the beautiful beach with loungers and hammock all along the shore line. The villas with Jacuzzis are setgoing up the hillside behind/overlooking the beach&se, and probably have a great view of the ocean. The land isn't tremendously steep but if you don’t want to walk there are small electric powered shuttles to take you back and forth. The whole resort is small and easily walked around. The beach/ shore is very shallow and it is not really possible to walk out to the sea when the tide is out as the sand underfoot is quite giving. When the tide is in the water is fabulous and warm, and because it is relatively shallow safe for nervous swimmers. For more adept swimmers - be careful if you swim out to the pontoon as it is covered in barnicles which are very sharp. When you can’t swim in the sea there is a lovely swimming pool to use, which is set back a little from the beach. EVENING ENTERTAINMENT ... we were entertained on three nights by a local musician ‘Tiger’ who played lovely mellow sets of familiar songs across from the restaurant 7.00 – 8.00pm, then by the bar 9.00pm – 10.00pm. He was fabulous and was very welcoming to guest joining him to sing. The music stopped at or shortly after 10.00pm in line with the tranquillity and relaxed atmosphere of Paradise. Whilst we were there, there was also a ( short) display of Thai dancing. THE SPA … Fabulous, tranquil, relaxing beautiful setting. Be wary of the Thai massage though – it is NOT like a European massage and can be very intense. If in doubt ask for a gentle massage. They tend to do some sort of deal each day. It books up quickly so if your stay is brief make sure you checkout availability when you arrive. There is also the option of having a massage on the beach, which is also good, but obviously it doesn't have the serenity of the spa experience. EATING … We ate at the more casual of the two restaurants - (though we were told there is also a third restaurant in the 'Treetops' area.) The food was very varied with a wide selection of Thai food, and European choices as well. Everything we ate was DELICIOUS. Breakfast was buffet style and very varied and delicious too. STAFF ... We were greeted by the usual Thai warm, friendly lovely welcome we had come to know - very welcome after the hotel we had stayed at the night before (The Pullman)- which though splendid, was brisk and rather cold . Paradise greets and serves you in the true spirit of the 'Land of Smiles'. CHECK OUT - Take care to have ALL your receipts and pre booked vouchers. Without these we would have been charged again for the room and the speed boat crossing which we had already paid for. Give yourself plenty of time to go through your final check out bill. Once we showed the vouchers we had no problem, but, though I’m sure they were on the system – we had to produce the vouchers to avoid being charged twice. We had to vacate our villa at noon, and left the island on the 3.00pm boat. However we enjoyed the resort for most of the day as guest are able to use the shower facilites at the spa. Would we go again???? .. Yes - In a heartbeat. It was … Paradise …
