very good, and in the center

Ghent, Belgium

The hotel is situated in the town center. Staff is very helpful and friendly. We got a spacious room with an equally spacious bathroom, and small safe. The room, which has air-con, is very well lighted and has enough power outlets, even for USB ! The bathroom is also well lighted, so a close shave is perfectly possible. We stayed on the 12th floor, where all the rooms have just been refurbished. There is complimentary water every day, and there are coffee and tea making facilities. WiFi was free but unreliable. There is a well equipped gym - the machines are dated though -, and a beautiful outdoor swimming pool, but although the temperature was high, swimming was not for the faintest of heart because of the low water temperature. Breakfast is very copious and extremely tasteful. Certainly a highly enjoyable place.

I want to live here, no really, I do, just not the room I was given the last stay...

Adelaide, Australia

Status: Hilton Diamond. Hilton Property Stays 2017 >40. I booked a King Ocean View Suite (junior) for a 4 night stay at the beginning of Jan. My previous stay at this hotel I had an Ocean View Suite as well which a small aircraft could have landed on the balcony it was that big, so my expectations were high and after a terrifying ride down from Bangkok, I was looking forward to some relaxation on my balcony lapping up some sunshine, a bit of music in the background with a Mojito within easy reach. I'm guessing by now, readers will know my expectations were not going to be met... On arrival, check in was brilliant and fast, recognised as a top tier Hilton Guest, and the check in lady explained she had upgraded me to a larger suite due to being a Diamond and she would show me the room... 3rd floor - hmmm - view isn't going to be very good! I asked why the room was on such a low floor, but I didn't understand the answer... something about the hotel being fully booked. 2 days earlier it wasn't with ocean view suites still available so I was left wondering why my prepaid booking of a month earlier had me in such a low room.. I'll just list pros and cons... Pros: I like the location - the last few stays have been at the Intercon. The Hilton kills the Intercon for location. The staff. Attentive and willing to help in any way The room. (see cons). Except for the view, the room was beautiful. In the older part of the hotel, but ticked all my boxes for what a hotel room should be. Bed. Really really good - need firmer pillows though Hotel bar (rooftop) - once the barman knew what we wanted, it was good. A little laziness crept into his cocktail making, but a quick word in his ear, the cocktails were made correct from that point on. Food served here was also good and it was nice sitting outside having small plates of food and a few drinks. Roof top restaurant (Chinese). Great in every respect. Faultless service ind the food was brilliant. Premium guest lounge (breakfast) - good selection and service Premium guest lounge canapes & drinks (different area) - nice selection of snacks, poor selection of beer, reasonable cocktails, great staff Cons: The view from my room was a shocker. OK, I could see the ocean which it was advertised as, but the balcony was a cave. Direct sunlight did not enter, lapping up some sun on my private balcony was out of the question, basically no view of the pool or other hotel areas - really really really disappointing. The Hua Hin brewing company - what the heck happened? That used to be a brilliant go to place for a cold beer... now a mosquito infested understaffed not very nice place... such a shame. Hilton, if you have your name pinned to this place, buck your ideas up, it's not good anymore. Yes, I'll be back, I love Hua Hin, but I will be ensuring my room isn't a cave next time I stay. As a final note, we sat with a couple over drinks night 2 - they had booked a standard room and were upgraded to a near top floor ocean view suite. Neither had hotel status. A bit of vinegar on the wound...
