Colonial retreat on the Mae Ping River

Located along the banks of Mae Ping River and overlooking Suthep Mountain, the five-star Anantara Chiang Mai Resort provides a peaceful retreat, not far from the city limits. The resort is a five minute walk from the Night Bazaar and a 10 minute walk from the traditional attractions of Chiang Mai.

Decorated with traditional Thai decor and colonial elements, this luxurious hotel provides an attractive setting, while the extensive lily pond compliments the tranquil environment. Relax on your balcony daybed, admiring courtyard, gardens or the peaceful river views and enjoy ample space and elegant interiors. Take a dip in the tranquil waterfront pool, enjoy some revitalising yoga, or delve into local culture with Thai boxing, cooking, or massage lessons.

When it comes to dining choices, you are spoilt and options include the all-day world cuisine Restaurant dining venue overlooking the river and the Colonial House where refined colonial architecture compliments a renowned weekday afternoon tea and weekend high tea boutique buffet, as well as tapas. For an old world atmosphere and a selection of cocktails, champagnes, world wines and Cuban cigars, head to the Cigar Lounge located in the old British consulate building.

This resort and spa is the perfect choice for those looking for luxurious facilities, settings and dining options in a prime Chiang Mai location. For added luxury, upgrades to Kasara Suites can be made and include access to the Kasara Lounge premium benefits.

Relaxed ambience with exceptional service

Bristol, United Kingdom

We stayed in the Kasara Garden view room and our stay from beginning to end did not disappoint. Despite the relaxed atmosphere, a lot goes in to make your stay memorable and deliveries a high quality service. We used the transfer service to pick us up from the airport after a long flight from London. Our driver was waiting for us when we landed and the car was stocked with drinks and a refreshing towel. Upon arrival to the hotel we were taken to the lounge to check-in. We drank our welcome drinks and asked to choose our room scent. Our room was styled beautifully, very large space and we had a view of the gardens. The turndown service in the evening, included our ice being topped up and an oil burner being lit in the bathroom. The staff in the hotel were super friendly and greeted me quite often by name. The breakfast had an extensive choice and we sat next to the river every morning. We made use of the free laundry service and the cocktails in the lounge in the evening (which were exceptional). Despite the very relaxed and calm atmosphere, a lot goes on behind the scenes to make your stay as comfortable as possible. I celebrated my 40th birthday here and the additional touches made my day even more special. I cannot recommend this hotel enough and thank everyone there.

Lovely, unique, and delicious...an experience more than just a hotel!

We have stayed at the Chiang Mai Anantara twice this year, and both times every aspect of our stay was, well, terrific. The facilities, staff, and the incredible breakfast buffet were wonderful. The hotel is beautiful, serene, and spotless, with very unique and very comfortable rooms. Both rooms we stayed in, and I think all their rooms, had covered balconies with comfortable furniture. The hotel has a good sized fitness center and a spotless, beautiful large pool. The location is just outside the "Old City," right on the bank of the Ping River. Great coffee, shopping, and some very good restaurants (including a fantastic Italian restaurant--Giorgios) were a short stroll away. There is occasional traffic noise in the hallways facing the street. Like all of Thailand, sidewalks in Chiang Mai are sometimes sketchy, but those around the hotel are generally good. It's a nice location and always seemed very safe and secure. We noticed no mosquitoes there, or really anywhere else in the cities in Thailand while there in both November and February. If this hotel is within your price range, you should definitely check it out. It's a great experience!

Food & Drink

The Service 1921

Here is a unique and rather eccentric dining experience not to be missed. The Service 1921 takes you to a fictitious reinvention of the British government’s secret intelligence service. The interiors are dark and dramatic, full of subtle twists and turns. Be sure to pay a visit to The Interrogation Room and look for the secret door in the library wall leading to the private dining area. The menu is a beautiful blend of contemporary Thai, Chinese and Vietnamese dishes, and the drinks menu is extensive and as intriguing as the restaurant itself.

Kasara Lounge

This discreet upper lounge is open exclusively to Kasara Suite guests, with a dedicated concierge on standby to fulfil every request. Rest inside on cushy living room couches or outside at shady veranda tables. Enjoy complimentary temptations, from a breakfast buffet to all day refreshments, and then cocktails, wine and gourmet canapes in the evening.

Restaurant

The Restaurant

Open throughout the day, the Restaurant serves a mouth-watering breakfast buffet of fresh bakery delights, tropical fruits and juices, eastern and western favourites, and made to order hot dishes. For lunch and dinner, a range of world cuisine options are served including northern Thai specialities, sublime western classics and exceptional Indian cuisine. Choose from a range of wines and champagnes recommended by the resorts Wine Guru to compliment you meal and enjoy dining inside or outside on the riverside deck.

Giant lily pad

Lobby Lounge

Overlooking a beautiful pond and the Colonial House beyond, the Lobby Lounge provides comfy daybeds and peaceful settings in which to enjoy refreshing beverages throughout the morning, as well as live Thai kim music at dusk.
