Zanzibar Safaris

The archipelago of Zanzibar offers a fresh and unique twist to any African safari experience with its culture, history and idyllic beaches, all just a short flight away from Tanzania, one of Africa’s premier safari locations. This group of historic Indian Ocean islands offer the perfect holiday spot for wildlife lovers, couples or families looking to combine their safari adventure with a luxurious, relaxing beach break.

Zanzibar safaris, combining bush treks and beaches

If you enjoy the sound of clear, turquoise-blue waters and powdery white sands amongst a group of small islands, many of which are virtually deserted, this is the place for you. We recommend tying a Zanzibar holiday into one of our multi-centre trips, as a pre or post safari treat. Zanzibar safaris are best enjoyed with the inclusion of a trip to Tanzania, being just a 45-minute flight away, it is exceptionally well placed to bookend the safari experience of a lifetime.

Whether you prefer to soak up the snorkelling, diving and culture rich lands of Zanzibar before or after your safari experience, we have a three-day fly-in safari to the vast and wild Selous Game Reserve, in southern Tanzania. This reserve boasts over 54,000 square kilometres of terrain and is home to over 750,000 animals including the Big Five. The Selous Game Reserve is one of the largest reserves in the world and can be explored by 4x4, boat, or on foot.

Keep an eye out for beautiful leopards showing off their spots, rare African wild dogs playing amongst the grass and herds of elephants soaking up the sun. For those who choose to venture out on a boat, you’ll steal a chance to see sleepy hippos and crocodiles bathing in the Rufiji River.

Alternatively, if you'd prefer a longer safari, you could opt to contrast your time on the paradise island of Zanzibar with one of our amazing Kenyan safaris or take in more of Tanzania, and include the Serengeti, Selous and Lake Manyara reserves. Whatever you have in mind, our Destination Specialists are ready to help you tailor make the perfect Zanzibar safari itinerary, so give us a call today.

Top Tips from our Experts

Destination Specialist

“Take a walking safari in the Selous reserve – it's a great way to get up close to nature. But don’t worry: you won't be left out in the wilderness on your own, you'll be joined by a knowledgeable tracker who will be able to point out things that you may not have noticed on your own.”

Senior Destination Manager

"You'll enjoy the best of both worlds when you contrast the excitement of an action-packed safari experience with the serenity of down time spent lounging on Zanzibar's stunning beaches – I highly recommend this combination."
