Beautiful Beach - Great Food - Lovely Rooms - (Lots of Mosquitos)

Des Moines, Iowa

We stayed three nights at Indigo Beach Zanzibar as an add-on extension of a safari trip we took with OneSeed Expeditions. The resort is small, with a very nice pool, wonderful food, friendly staff, reasonable prices and set upon a fantastically beautiful beach. Outside the compound walls is the true Zanzibar which is very poor, although the local people are also very friendly and eager to sell you goods from their shops. The rooms are very nice, with outdoor (private) showers & toilets which makes it feel very exotic. Breakfast is free in the morning, and the lunch options are via a menu that is available with lots of different options; all those of which our group of four tried were very good. Dinner options are posted daily and generally allowed for three entree options; all was very good. The only negative we found to this place were the local folks on the beach continually hounding you to buy things, almost all of which could be found in the little village (or elsewhere in Tanzania) for better prices than they were giving on the beach. And, the mosquitos at dusk were quite bad, although the resort sprayed your rooms each evening before putting down the bed mosquito netting which did help. We asked for a floor fan - which they did have available - and having that blowing in the room helped to abate the mosquito's quite a bit. I would recommend & return to this location in the future. The owners of this property are French so there are quite a few French guests onsite. The staff all spoke very good English. I presume some also spoke French as well.

Honeymoon at Indigo

Indigo Beach Hotel was an absolute paradise. The hotel (or it should be called a resort) was amazingly clean and well kept up. The food was absolutely delicious from breakfast, lunch and dinner and the service and hospitality was the best I’ve experience in my last 3 years of global travel. We stayed in one of the beach front villas which felt like being right on the sand in front of the water. The villa was very clean, open and airy, with windows and doors you can open to provide an amazing beach experience. During the day we chose from a number of things to do which included, laying on the beach chairs in front of our villa, going to the pool, walked the beach tie Paje (45 min walk), rented a mo-ped ($25 all day) to cruise up to Rock Restaurant and took a dala dalal (2,000 shilling / per person) to Stone Town for the day. On our last night, they provided a complimentary private honeymoon dinner which was absolutely delicious and the decorations were beautiful. What an amazing stay at Indigo, I would defiantly stay there again! Thank you to the staff for the great food, cleanliness of the property and accommodation and for the hotel Masai for helping us get a cab at 4:30am to the airport after our first cab never showed.
