9 day tour itinerary

The Bush Rover Experience

An unforgettable safari experience

There is no place quite like Tanzania for a wildlife safari with some of the most famous names in safari-world – Serengeti, Ngorongoro, Lake Victoria. It is hard to beat. Add to this Mount Kilimanjaro and Zanzibar beaches and this stunning country has it all. We want to take you off the beaten track to experience this in a more personal and intimate way, staying in private exclusive camps. The Serengeti is home to the famous great wildebeest migration where millions of wildebeest move around the Serengeti eco-system throughout the year. Watch them cross rivers in their thousands with crocodiles waiting close at hand and the predators never too far behind. Watch large herds of elephant pass by, giraffe, zebra and huge varieties of antelope. Lions, leopard, cheetah, hyena are just a few of the predators which make this their home whilst the bird life is staggering. Then head south to stunning deserted beaches combined with safaris right on the Indian ocean - a completely different landscape to the north.

This morning, drive from Karatu and into the beautiful Ngorongoro conservation area. Stop at the edge of the famous crater to marvel at the expanse and then pass through the conservation area, home to traditional Maasai boma (or homesteads) with Maasai living as they have done for many years. See the Maasai grazing their cows alongside zebra and wildebeest en route into Serengeti national park. Game drive in Serengeti until you arrive at your exclusive private Bush Rover migration camp. This small and intimate semi-permanent camp has just 4 rooms and a dining tent with a dedicated team to make your stay here perfect. Depending on time of year, the camp could be located on the Mara river close to a wildebeest crossing point, the south-eastern area of Kusini or on the Grumeti river. The famous migrating herds move throughout the year and stop and graze at various places. The migration camp sets up in the heart of the great wildebeest migration. Your Bush Rover suite is a Land Rover vehicle which opens up into fantastic accommodation for two people to share with a 14 x 16 square foot bedroom and balcony, shower, flush loo and even a bath tub.

Little Okavango camp is located close to narrow water channels which feed into Lake Victoria, the famous source of the great river Nile discovered by James Henning Speke. There will be opportunity to canoe down the narrow water channels during your stay with a guide. This area is one of the best places in Tanzania for birds.

This morning, head to a local fishing village, home of the Sukuma tribe. Watch the fishermen bring in their catch and the women on the shore preparing the fish for market. Next, head over to the boat builders with your guide and learn about life on the Lake. After lunch back at the camp, head out by canoe along the water channels teeming with fantastic bird life. The camp is called Little Okavango due to the tall papyrus grasses which dwarf you as your canoe paddles along the water channels, a bit like the Okavango Delta.

This morning after breakfast, drive a couple of hours to Mwanza airport to connect with your flight south to Dar es Salaam (one hour flight time).
