A precious Indian Ocean gem

Escape to the Manta Resort and relax at one of the Indian Ocean's best kept secrets.

Situated on an idyllic beach on beautiful Pemba Island, the Manta Resort offers privacy and romance, as well as adventure and water sports, on one of East Africa's finest island sanctuaries.

Within rustic thatched buildings, strung in a meandering line through lush green gardens, choose from elegantly decorated beach-front rooms and spacious villas which blend perfectly with their tropical surroundings.

Or, for the ultimate in unique luxury and seclusion, opt for the resort's spectacular three-storey suite which floats in the ocean, tethered 250 metres from the shore. From the submerged bedroom you can gaze out into crystal clear water at the abundant shoals of reef fish and coral heads; you'll also enjoy a fully-stocked bar fridge and sunbathing (or stargazing) on the upper deck – a truly memorable, one-in-a-lifetime retreat.

Head to Kipepeo Spa for a selection of massages and treatments which will transport you to your most blissed out state, with the tranquil sounds of palm fronds rustling and waves gently breaking as a backdrop. Embrace your new pace of life with a tangy Lemongrass Ginger Sling cocktail or frosty beer as the soft breeze cools your skin, before taking a romantic walk along the beach and enjoying a candlelit dinner.

Wow

kent

We stayed at the manta resort for 8 nights in the middle of August, as a family group of 6. From the minute we arrived we were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble. Ahmed was assigned to us for the week and served our meals , came on trips with us and generally was there for us from 6 in the morning until we went to bed. He was so friendly and helpful and could laugh with us too and I can’t praise him or thank him enough. The main lodge area is beautifully designed with a laid back vibe - the food is fantastic , plentiful with decent wine too. Our kids sampled the cocktails and beers too and showed the barman how to make an espresso martini. ! All the drink is included too The beach has soft white sand but there is seaweed and hard to swim when the tide is out. There were also some jellyfish around on a couple of days. The rooms are fine , hot showers and nice decor , we had a standard garden room so not much in the room apart from a giant bed but we spent no time there except to sleep. We did most of the trips - the early morning reef snorkel is a must , amazing on some days , cloudy with jelly fish spores on others ( wear a wet suit ) Morning snorkel trip further afield was good for coral but not so much for the fish and was quite rough. Fishing trip and sunset cruise got thumbs up. And the sandbank trip was fabulous , kind of depends on the tide but we had hours there with lunch and drinks And finally some of us went by bike to the local school where they teach English after normal school hours. Many of the staff work there in their 2 hours off in the afternoon - there were about 35 children of mixed ages and we were made to feel very welcome , my son “played teacher” and the kids were so smart and friendly. Everywhere you walk around the villages in Pemba the children come up and the brave ones will shake your hand and they practice their English , I have never seen so many happy friendly faces. So a huge thank you to all the staff at the manta resort from all of us , we have gone home with such wonderful memories. And would love to come back again.

Beautiful resort

We were lucky enough to spend 10 days here after our safari for our honeymoon. The resort is spotlessly clean and always being well maintained by the staff. All the staff were approachable and friendly. Our service fundi, Rashid, was brilliant, he quickly came to know us and went above and beyond. This included coming along on our sunset boat trip and the sandbank trip. We had the privilege of cycling to his village, which is nearby, where we visited the school that he teaches at in the evenings. The children were extremely hard working and it was a pleasure seeing a great village in Pemba. The food at the Manta resort is brilliant, a very varied menu with such delicious flavours in all the meals. The cocktails and selection of drinks were also very good. The beach has the best sand we have ever seen and the snorkeling for conservation trips at 7am in the morning were very good, well organised and we saw plenty of fish and corals. We hope to be able to make another trip here within the next few years and thoroughly recommend this resort for anyone looking for a beautiful and peaceful place to visit.
