Perfect anniversary trip

Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida

If I could give PSV 6 stars, I would. It exceeded our very high expectations. We booked a weeklong trip for our 10th anniversary and our entire stay was perfect. If you want high end luxury as defined by extremely high levels of privacy and a remote, unspoiled setting, this place is for you. We were placed in cottage 3 and absolutely loved it. We spent most days just relaxing together on the deck and sunbathing in complete privacy. The views were panoramic and stunning—sunrise out the windows/back deck, sunset on the front deck. We ate in the room frequently and loved the flag system for ordering. The morning coffee was fabulous. We spent a few afternoons at the beach, and ate dinner a few nights at the main restaurant, which was very romantic. We loved the beach barbecue too. The fresh lobster was amazing. The Thai massages are some of the best we’ve had—we went back for seconds! We also enjoyed the day sail to Tobago Cays. This resort is perfect for you if you want near total privacy, romance, rustic elegance, stunning views, and time to unplug and focus on your loved one. We didn’t try the scuba shop so can’t comment on that, but heard other people say the dive sites were very good. We are definitely returning. PSV, so far, is the only place that rivals our honeymoon experience in the Maldives, and is much easier to reach from the US!

This is THE place to get away from it all

My husband found this place by accident while searching for a quiet week away and it was intriguing enough that we decided to give it a try. We are so glad we did. Getting to this island takes some time. Since we had the time, we split the outbound trip up because sometimes flights run on "island time" and sometimes the flights are on time. We went from Fort Lauderdale to Barbados and spent the night. The next day, we were back at the Barbados airport to take a 20 seat plane to Union Island. If you have issues with little planes, take non-drowsy Dramamine, works really well. Be patient, sometimes the plane makes stops at other islands as it is essentially a taxi service. From Union Island, there is a car that will take you to the docks. The Petit St. Vincent speed boat picks you up and goes across the channel to the island. It can be rough. At the island, you are greeted with cold scented towels (much needed) and a cold drink. The staff knows who you are as soon as you get off the boat, and they know which cottage you are staying. You don't have to go to the office, everything is done for you. We had cottage 3, at the top of the bluff with no close neighbors. Absolutely spectacular views, good breeze and listening to the waves. I did read some reviews around hot water..... if there is a problem with the hot water, have the staff come and check to make sure the water heater was turned on. Once we had that checked.... plenty of hot water to take a very hot shower. Bug spray and other essentials are under one of the sinks in the bathroom.... use the bug spray if you are going to hike or run. AC worked fine, we had it set to 16C and actually needed to turn it up a few times as it was too cold. The nice thing about this island is you can do lots of stuff...... or nothing at all. I am a runner, so I ran the island's trails and did the fitness trail several times. All the equipment is in very good condition. I thought the trails were in good condition, obviously you need to watch your step. My husband and I did the Marni trail which brings you to the highest point of the island (275 feet), we did it in sneakers but I would suggest hiking boots because of the rocks. Bring water. Or, you can find a secluded piece of beach and take a nap in one of the very comfortable lounge chairs. Water is located at every beach station around the island. My husband is a sailor so we took the HobieCat out a few times, great fun going around the island. If you are a beginner, take some lessons and understand the layout of the island as there are plenty of rocks around. You can play tennis, learn kite surfing, take a scuba class or snorkel. The speedboat will take you to a reef where you can snorkel. I have read reviews that you need to really like who you are with..... truth. The first couple of days, we saw no other guests on the island, which was fine for us but if you are very social....bring your own friends and rent a two bedroom cottage. There is no cell phone service on most of the island. If you are on the beach, you will pick up a local carrier (FLOW). If you really feel like you need cell phone service, I would suggest getting a local SIM and dropping into an old phone. We travel to Europe a lot and that's what we do. You do have internet at the main pavilion.... fast enough to check mail and post pictures to Facebook. The flag system at the beach and the cottage works very well. Red for do not disturb, yellow for service including questions. We had coffee delivered each day at 6:30 AM; they leave it on the shelf outside your cottage door. We had breakfast delivered by 7:30 AM and ate it on our porch with the birds. All of the food is unbelievably fresh..... you really can taste the difference. My husband caught a bit of flu while we were there; the staff was nice enough to bring him whole-made ginger tea to ease his throat and chest. It was a nice touch and definitely above and beyond. We ate dinner every night in the pavilion.....again the quality of the food was simply unbelievable. I took the opportunity to eat seafood every night. The portions are European so you do not feel like you need to be rolled away from the table. I thought the beer, wine and champagne were reasonably priced, although given the opportunity I would broaden the wine list a bit. There are plenty of wines from California (Napa, Sonoma), South Africa, New Zealand and Europe with better price points than what they had on the menu. If you love who you are with and enjoy spending time together, this is the ultimate in getting away from it all.
