Counting down the days until I can go back

Simply put the Palm Island Resort & Spa is the best resort in the Caribbean. From pristine beaches to attentive and friendly service, clean and comfortable accommodations, and a spa that you will never want to leave, this place is truly one-of-a-kind. If you're hesitating to book your trip because of the few handful of negative reviews on here (you can't please everyone and some people just like to complain), don't wait any longer - you will not regret taking a trip to Palm Island! I would especially like to thank the staff of the hotel - Joe, Cyril, Katie, Hulda and so many others who all made the experience one of the most relaxing and fun vacations I have ever taken. Do not miss the Caribbean BBQ night, the hibiscus treatment at the Spa, and excursions on the Yannis (I miss all the caribbean remixes they played on the boat). Already starting to plan a return trip. Thank you for everything, Palm Island!

Paradise

Palm Island is stunning, from powder beaches, crystal clear water, freely roaming iguanas, beautiful frangipani and other flowers and plants adorning the pathways. You can be as active as you like, with subtle organised activities such as yoga, snorkelling right off the beach, cycle around the island to see the diversity of it, or you can simply relax and sway in a hammock and whilst swaying,it won't be long before a member of staff offers drinks of your choice. And, that is what makes this resort so very special...THE STAFF. Each and every one of them, it would be difficult to single out a member of staff, because each and every one of them is delightful, nothing is too much trouble, in fact they go out of their way to make sure you are happy and have everything you could possible need. They are so friendly, but professionall and know each guest by their name, The chefs create delicious food, Royal Palm restaurant for more formal dining, and lunch is served literally on the beach and the food is terrifiic. Because the resort is quite small, the guests congregate around the bar prior to and after dinner and soon get to know one another. The atmosphere is fantastic. If there is a negative, we only have one, we stayed in a Plantation suite, and the bathroom is in need of a serious refurbishment/maintenance , the room too, but to a lesser degree. And that's it, the only negative. We can not thank and praise the staff enough, they are just the best and we cannot wait to return.

A magical place with magical staff. The holiday of a lifetime.

Truly there are no words to adequately describe Palm Island: there are lots of nice beaches around the world, there are lots of warm seas, nice views, nice pools, good food, accommodation and attentive staff. One might even argue there are other resorts that are better than Palm Island in some of these aspects, though personally I would find that difficult to agree. Regardless, what makes Palm Island different is all of those things come together perfectly in this one place and most importantly are held together by the most wonderful people you could meet. When we first arrived I thought it must be put on for show and behind the scenes the staff probably curse the guests. But within a couple of hours it becomes obvious that these people really care about the guests and want to make sure everyone has a good time. They succeed, boy do they succeed, and they really enjoy enjoy themselves in the process and they become like friends and family; so much so that when the day comes to say goodbye it is like leaving your family behind – it hurts. My wife cried from the moment we got on the boat to Union Island and didn’t stop until we arrived at Barbados airport a couple of hours later. The only way to console her has been to promise to go back for another holiday. We spent 14 days there after a week in Barbados at Coral Reef Club and next time we will do 3 weeks on Palm Island. We can’t wait to go back and relax on the beach and by the pool again. We just hope that Cyril, Dervon, Hulda, Olive, Louis, Jameal, Daniel, Ed, Alaska, Anthony etc are all still there to welcome us back. A few points to consider before you rush off and book: • The plane is small and cosy and unlike a large aircraft you can see the pilots at the controls and do feel every bump and bounce. Something to be aware of if you are scared of flying but if you treat it like the adventure it is you will be fine. • If you like a lot of activities and nightlife this is not the holiday for you. There are activities but they are limited and nightlife is restricted to dinner, a few drinks at the bar and maybe cinema on the beach or a steel band. • Beach front rooms are special. The real plus is they have fantastic views of the beach and the sea on your doorstep. However the closeness of the sea means those waves can be loud at night and whilst it is lovely to dose off to the sound of the ocean, if you are a light sleeper you will most likely be woken by those sounds during the night and it can be hard to get back to sleep. I had no problem with that because I liked the views and I could catch up on any lost sleep whilst lying on the beach or by the pool. To be honest the island is small enough that most rooms have some view of the sea and you are never more than 2 minutes’ walk from the beach. • The island is not entirely private – Caribbean beaches are all public access by law and you will see day trippers using both the beach and sometimes the restaurant for lunch. Apparently the resort has started to offer day passes for use of the facilities (pool and Spa) but we saw no evidence of any uptake. Other reviewers have highlighted these day trippers as a major issue though we had no problems at all and were unaware of their presence on the beach for most of the time but your experience may vary depending on the time of year. • Make sure you do the trip to Tobago Cays to swim with the Turtles. It is a wonderful experience and the crew ensure you have a good time and are well looked after regardless of your snorkelling experience (or lack of). • There are Iguanas, lots of them and rightly they are allowed to roam free. The bigger ones can look scary but they will run away if approached and present no threat. • Most importantly, get to know the staff as it will enhance your holiday experience dramatically. We loved it and cannot praise the resort staff highly enough and that includes everyone from the guys working hard to keep the grounds tidy all the way up to the management.
