Your adventure begins with a few days spent in dazzling Cape Town, where you'll enjoy amazing coastlines, spectacular scenery, a wealth of history and an abundance of restaurants.

On your fourth day, depart Cape Town and head along iconic Route 62. With stunning landscape, from rolling vineyards to the vast open spaces of the Klein Karoo, you'll be awe-struck by the natural beauty of your surroundings. Tribal art, museums and culture combine with caving, hiking trails, canoeing and fishing to provide a diverse and immersive range of experiences.

You'll finish your self drive road trip with the thrill of a safari in Kruger National Park; game drives with knowledgeable guides will give you the opportunity to spot the Big Five while tracking through the bush in an open-topped safari vehicle.

Itinerary Breakdown

Arrive into Cape Town and collect your hire car. Your accommodation is located on the slopes of the Twelve Apostles, a stone's throw from the famous white beach, elegant restaurants and nightlife of Camps Bay - an ideal base to explore the city.

Today embark on a day of exploration around Cape Town. If weather permits, why not take a ride on the cable car to the top of Table Mountain for spectacular views? Or a short boat trip to Robben Island, famous for being where Nelson Mandela was incarcerated for many years.

Today, take the car and drive south along the peninsula through wonderful coastal roads, experiencing the Atlantic Ocean on one side and the Indian Ocean on the other. Visit the rugged Cape of Good Hope and the penguin colony at Boulders Beach.

This morning you will leave Camps Bay and travel to the wine producing town of Montagu. Spending time in Montagu is sure to relax and recharge your batteries or, if you are so inclined, there is a list of activities to get the adrenaline flowing.

After spending the morning in Montagu, you will take the short drive to Oudtshoorn where you can enjoy a number of activities, including a trip to the spectacular Cango Caves or a visit to see the world's biggest bird at an ostrich farm.

Today you will continue your journey along the Garden Route towards Knysna. The Knysna Log Inn is just a five minute walk from the popular Knysna Quays, also known as the Waterfront, where you will find a good selection of bars and restaurants.

Spend the day exploring the sights and sounds of Knysna and surrounding towns. Perhaps you'll opt to take a catamaran cruise on the lagoon, the breeding ground of the Knysna oyster and home to the threatened Knysna seahorse.

After breakfast, depart Knysna and head towards the beautiful coastal town of St Francis where you can enjoy a range of activities, from boat cruises to surfing to golfing.

This morning drop your car off at Port Elizabeth Airport and fly to Kruger (via Johannesburg) for some spectacular game drives in the Thornybush Game Reserve.
