Rovos Rail

Explore this magnificent continent in style

Founded in 1989, this truly elegant train transports its passengers past the landscapes of South Africa, through the plains of Namibia, across the majestic Victoria Falls. Experience a safari adventure in wonderful places like Selous Game Reserve in Tanzania or Madikwe and Kruger national parks with journeys lasting between three and 15 days.

Rovos Rail is not just about the destination, it is an experience in itself. Begin your days on the train with breakfast served in the charming Victorian atmosphere of the dining cars. After breakfast move to the viewing carriage to take in your surroundings or unwind in the lounge. Lunch is served at 1.00pm with a gong heralding the start. All meals are freshly prepared by the talented onboard chefs; perhaps sample one of the wines chosen to pair perfectly with your meal. In the afternoon relax in the bar, chatting to your fellow guests or the friendly staff who are there to create a wonderful memory.

An afternoon tea is usually served at 4.30pm in the lounge or observation car at the rear of the train. A formal four-course meal is served at 7.30pm with a dress code of jacket and tie for men and evening gown for the ladies adding to the elegance of the journey. In the evenings the train stops for the night to help provide a peaceful night of sleep.

Choose from three standards of cabin – all offer comfort and relaxing surroundings as well as shower, air conditioning, safe, fridge, dressing gown and slippers, writing desk and room service plus much more. For the ultimate experience, book a Royal Suite – taking up half a carriage, the spacious suites each have their own private lounge area and full bathroom with Victorian bath and separate shower. This really is the ultimate, luxury train ride.
