Super stay as always!

Cape Town

This is my 6th time at Chitwa Chitwa and its as perfect as ever. Super accommodation, great staff and fantastic game viewing. The new Pizza truck is a smash hit! Has to be one of the best game lodges in the Sabi Sands and at super prices. Contact Travel Exclusively African for their fantastic rates: [email protected]

Very good but not as perfect as it should be

London, United Kingdom

We went to Chitwa for 4 nights in March. I am going to be perfectly honest about our experience there. We arrived one afternoon and was greeted by Busi with a lovely cool drink. We were shown to Room 1 which was huge but could do with a tiny bit of renovating, albeit I loved it and the African theme. Our friends had room 11 which was the most modern and furthest away but our room had a fantastic location. After a quick change we were taken on our first drive with our ranger Sheldon and tracker Bethuel. After the most fantastic first drive including a stop for evening drinks when the sun went down we were taken to a spot lit with fairy lights and following the beat of a drum to a magical location to eat our first evening meal which was lovely. Unfortunately the next morning we were both unwell, not due to Chitwa I must add, but our phone was out of order so we could not contact the reception. After a time Busi checked on us and brought us water. I must say however that a lot of the other food was disappointing. Nothing is covered at breakfast and I could see midges or ants on the open food. Others reviewers had said there were exciting locations for meals but whilst they were in different locations, there was nothing special other than night 1. Others were talking about lunches on the runway but our lunches were taken in our room. The food was our biggest gripe. For the money paid for this luxurious lodge, the food should have been a lot better. You had to order lunch and dinner at the meal before and a lot of the time we found the food awful. In fact we complained to the new General Manager who said he had been brought in to make a difference which it clearly needed. I now want to talk about Sheldon and Bethuel. I can sum them up in a word ‘amazing’. The drives were fantastic and I can’t believe the other rangers or trackers are as good or as funny and friendly. Sheldon constantly joked with us and we had the most fabulous time. We saw everything we wanted to see other than a wild dog. Even on our last drive we wanted to see more giraffe and baboons, Sheldon and Beth found them. Our room had a lovely plunge pool and an awesome view of the dam and from the room we saw elephants, hippos and even a leopard roaming around one night. One morning Bethuel took us to the village nursery and the money paid goes into a Trust to assist the community. If you can look away from the fact that some of the guests are treated more favourably and the food is mediocre, then you should go to experience the fantastic game drives and you may be lucky enough to get Sheldon and Bethuel. Sheldon if you read this, thank you for making my 60th so special, I will never forget our time with you. To sum up, good experience but poor value for money.
