Tsitsikamma National Park Holidays

With dramatic river gorges, a marine reserve, indigenous forests and stunning coastline, Tsitsikamma National Park is absolutely beautiful and really puts the 'garden' into Garden Route

The national park sits on a 200 metre high plateau and extends from the Bloukrans River to the Tsitsikamma River, bordered by the imposing Tsitsikamma Mountains on one side and the Indian Ocean to the other.

When visiting the park you'll be spoilt for choice by the host of adventure activities on land and in the air and water – from hiking to horse riding, mountain biking to kayaking and blackwater tubing to bungee jumping and canopy tours via aerial runways.

  • Hiking Trails

Covered as it is by fynbos, forests, and grasslands, you will see a rich array of birds on your holiday in Tsitsikamma National Park. See the African black oystercatchers, kelp gulls, and cormorants along the coastline or spy pied and giant kingfishers hunting the tidal pools of the rivers. Explore the emerald forests to see Knysna louries, emerald cuckoos, narina trogons, and olive woodpeckers.

  • Nature's Valley

While exploring the Garden Route, make sure to stop at some of the hiking trails dotted around Tsitsikamma National Park. From short day hikes to longer, overnight ones, there is something to suit every hiker's tastes. The most famous of these is the Otter Trail, a five-day hike along unspoiled trails along coastal cliffs and hills, dipping down to the rivers and climbing back up to the mountains. For something a bit shorter, try the Waterfall Trail, which takes you to a spectacular waterfall in about three hours, or the Viewpoint Trail, which takes you over a suspension bridge to a beautiful lookout across the Indian Ocean.

  • Bungee Thrills

This small village is tucked in the heart of Tsitsikamma National Park. Lying at the mouth of the Groot River, Nature's Valley is arguably one of the most beautiful areas in South Africa's Garden Route. Everywhere around you are miles of white beaches, dramatic mountains, and verdant forests. The village has remained relatively unspoiled and undiscovered, giving it an otherworldly charm not to be missed. Take scenic hiking trails through rainforests, canoe the river, or swim in the ocean.
