Afternoon tea

Afternoon tea content was good but was let down by the service despite the number of staff available and the fact that the restaurant was not very busy. Had a voucher for afternoon teas and 2 glasses of bubbly but the staff didn’t acknowledge it and we had to ask for the bubbly after our tea. Then on leaving we were asked to pay for the bubbly - no one seemed to be in control despite the comments “I will be looking after you” - it didn’t happen and several people seemed to look after us without knowing what we had covered in our voucher! It was a special gift to us on our visit here and while we enjoyed the food we did not like the service not recommended

Delightful, elegant with stunning views

London, United Kingdom

Stayed here 2 nights (Tuesday/Wednesday) and it was mildly busy but not full. Several other guests were returners and staying multiple nights - all gusts were well heeled! Original allocated Room 5 in the Manor House - huge room with a great view but soulless in my view and not well furnished to take advantage of that view! However, very pleased that Superb duty management team found us another room I liked more (Terrior Cottage). I hugely appreciated this service and it continued - every member of staff from the duty manager to the gardeners out and about were friendly and helpful. Other things I liked a lot .... - Manor House Terrace with the great view of the valley is good for chilling (the lounge with windows opening), coffee, breakfast or lunch (terrace tables) and dinner in the conservatory Restuarant. - Restuarant- although very quiet the Wednesday night we ate here we thought the food was excellent and service top class - breakfast buffet is smallish by ‘normal’ Hotel standards but excellent quality and huge buffets are unnecessary in my view if there is a cooked option too. Can hugely recommend the blueberry pancakes and the smashed avocado on sprouted seed toast! - gardens and sculptures - all formal but just nice to wonder round. - charming shuttle service to and from the village / other vineyards - the spa. It’s a very smart spa indeed and treatments are up to the standard you’d (hopefully) expect for the location and the price (I had 90min massage and wash/blow dry in the salon) Note - Leeu Estates is just on the outskirts of Franschoek - which is why you get the better perspective on the valley view. I’d say it’s a 15min walk to the centre of town but we didn’t test that. We really loved this location - the Town was overly busy and hot in a late summers week and we liked having somewhere cool and calm to escape to. The cottages are a 5min amble through the gardens from the Manor House. There is another swimming pool by the gardens which is handy (and saves a trek back to the Manor House and Spa pool.
