Yes Sir!

Great staff, very convenient, lovely rooms! Loved my 6 night stay at the Sir Francis Drake. Kimpton hotels are always a great bet, I travel a lot and where I can stay at a Kimpton, I will.... Reasonable prices for all the services and room you get. I can recommend this place to really enjoy San Francisco. Have a great time!

Bring the earplugs

Chicago, Illinois

Pros: Fabulous location, beautiful lobby, charming room decor, lots of unexpected perks like the wine happy hour, $10 coupons for the restaurant. At the time of my booking it was one of the only reasonably priced hotels not 100% sold out. Cons: The bathrooms are TINY. I don't think it would be physically possible to have a smaller footprint. Nowhere to set your things and the open door practically touches the toilet. There are no fans in the bathroom and as a consequence it looks as if mold is forming on the ceiling. The noise. I'm one of those people that doesn't use the complimentary ear buds in airport hotels. I live 2 houses down from a commuter train. I don't mind rooms by the elevator or the ice machine. With all that in mind, this is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in for street noise. I actually got up in the middle of the night to verify the window wasn't open. From the 10th floor I can hear everything from a saxophone, cars, the trolley, powerwashing, garbage trucks and people. The windows are really old (like the rest of the hotel) and not soundproof. The elevators. A bunch of us got stuck in an elevator that would continually pick up new passengers on every floor but wouldn't go down to the lobby. After 10 mins we all got out and walked 10 floors down to the lobby. On a good day the elevators are very slow. The hotel feels like a european hotel and due to the styling it holds it's age better than others, but you can tell it needs a refresh in places. Would love to see them fix some of the infrastructure problems so the Sir Francis Drake can continue to be a San Francisco institution. Definitely pack your earbuds and I would recommend a hanging travel bag for the bathroom!
