In desperate need of a face lift

Woodbine, Maryland

The lobby/bar area is beautiful and the hotel is home to the starlight on the 21st floor. But the rooms are small and the bathrooms are minuscule... that’s no exaggeration. The corners of the hallways are tattered and dusty as are the rooms and those bathrooms. I love kimpton’s but I’m not a fan of this one.

Anniversary night away


This Kimpton was our second. Also spent a few days at a Kimpton property in Seattle where we had a totally different experience! I'll start with positives...Great location in Union Square (although since my last trip to SF, the homeless situation is out of hand with poor souls sleeping on the sidewalk outside the hotel, rummaging for food in garbage can outside Starbuck's next door). Not a pretty sight. The lobby is lovely. The front staff was very responsive and positive. The negatives...extremely slow, small elevators-there were 4 of them and we frequently waited 5 min for a ride. We knew the hotel was old, we weren't expecting flashy and new. The room was extremely small (classic King room) . We had hoped for a requested upgrade but were told the hotel was sold out . Not expecting that in the middle of January. The hallway on the 8th floor smelled like dirty diapers. At first we thought they were having a sewage problem or a leak of some sort. The room did not smell this way. The bathroom was unbelievably small, floor space was 4feetx4feet, not enough room for 2 people to be in there at the same time .The vanity was 2 feet long, no place to leave any belongings. There was hair on the toilet. The tub looked like it had been spackled . Looked dirty . The towels were rough and old looking. There were no extra blankets in the room, and only one robe left in the closet. The walls were extremely thin, I could hear people talking in regular tones on both sides, one couple was having way more fun than the other hmmmm, and had to listen to weird music from one room until after midnight. Of course neither of us slept. Also lots of outside sirens throughout the night and a noisy hallway outside our room. There was no coffee maker in the room, making it necessary to get dressed and schlep down to the lobby in my slippers...Also no refrigerator or microwave. There were however $6 bottles of water and $23 mini bottles of wine and overpriced snacks in the room. The room was decorated nicely, in Kimpton style with quirky light fixtures, paintings, and furniture. Oh, did I mention the night time wine reception? From 5 to 6, wine is offered in the lobby, they also had focaccia. However, it was so crowded there was no place to sit, so my husband and I found a place on the stairs, and ended up having our wine in our room. Upon checkout, we noticed that they had given us a credit, presumably after I complained about the housekeeping in our room. (which they recleaned our room upon our request). We used the valet parking (67.00) no problems.
