Volcanoes National Park

Home to a third of the world’s mountain gorillas, this protected national park is where Sigourney Weaver filmed Gorillas in the Mist, based on the life of American naturalist Dian Fossey.

Follow expert guides through thick bamboo forests to spot these endangered primates up close. Other animals making their home here include golden monkeys, buffalos, spotted hyenas and 178 species of birds.

You can also explore the Musanze Caves. believed to have formed due to a volcanic eruption and 1.25 miles long.
