Very nice staff Jenny

We are from Japan and I have 1 son. My husband visited here together with my son last 2018. I was not able to go because of work but during their stay they said a lot of things about crimson. But what made me happy was when my son said he enjoyed his vacation because the resort is nice and he loves swimming at the pool. His favourite was the play area because he has a friend named Jenny and he want to go back to see her. So we decided to go back crimson last December. We stayed two days because of the request of our son Masa and the other three days in Plantation Bay. We were so amazed when we went to Crimzone and I approached Jenny with my son, she still recognize my son also to my husband. Me and my husband said, wow her memory was good especially that this resort has lots of kids during that time. When you go in this resort you will see her she is very friendly and approachable. We also would like to thank the other staffs who played with my son in the play area. Sorry I forgot your names. The resort was fantastic in every way, the views, facilities and the people working are all nice. Room is clean and the swimming pools are well maintained. Every morning we like to swim. Thank you Jenny and Crimson for giving us nice memories that want us to come back for more.

After several stays.. here are some thoughts..

New York

I’ve stayed 7 different times at Crimson now, both alone and with family, mostly as 1-2 day layovers on our way through Cebu airport. I’ve also stayed at every different type of room from the least expensive “Deluxe” to the decidedly more pricey “Sea View Pool Suite”, here’s a couple of thoughts on what’s good, bad, as well as some pro-tips for getting the most out of your stay at Crimson. First and foremost Crimson is on Mactan Island, where most of the other beach resorts are located. If you’re looking at spending time in Cebu itself, it’s a bit of distance away, especially with some of the Cebu’s prime time traffic. But this also means that you have a quick, relatively traffic free route to Mactan airport, ideal for layovers. The complimentary airport pickup and drop off are fantastic, especially if you’re a first timer in Cebu or are unfamiliar with arranging your own transportation. Make arrangements early and confirm with the concierge, especially during when they’re busy as they schedule rigidly. The resort is relatively medium sized when compared to the other sprawling resort properties (Plantation Bay, Shangri-La, etc), but as attractions around the resort are well spaced, it never feels overly crowded and lacks some of the annoying bottleneck areas I’ve found in Shangri-La. There’s two main pools: a very instagramable but shallow and often most crowded main pool directly in front of the main entrance with views of the beach, and another pool connected to a kids pool tucked away in the corner of the property. Take pictures at the main pool, but if you’re interested in actually swimming around, go hit up the “Crimzone” pool. The beach is pretty, but hilariously small and rocky if you actually want to swim in the ocean. Makes for a good area to sun around and get a tan though, and there are plenty of beach chairs with umbrellas. Now onto the rooms, and this is where it gets interesting. There are basically six kinds of rooms, starting with the “deluxe”, “deluxe garden”, “pool villa”, “ocean front pool villa”, “beach front pool villa” and the family sized “beach casita”. The quality of the rooms can vary dramatically depending on price but even the suites have differences between them that can have a huge impact on your experience. The two normal rooms are the “deluxe” and “deluxe garden”. The price difference between the two is roughly $40-50 USD per night, but trust me, spend the extra coin on the “deluxe garden”. The “deluxe” rooms are housed in several two story buildings on the property. Not only are these the smallest of the rooms and resemble most other hotel rooms, they’re also the most outdated and in need of some serious renovation and TLC. The rooms need some work, I saw damaged bathroom counters, shower doors with uneven hinges, a soap rack in the shower that probably broke and was just screwed back in with wood screws and walls that need to be repainted. The “deluxe garden” room however, seemed to be dramatically better. These are not in a building but rather in condo like connected living spaces with generous partitions. These seem to be the best value for the experience. Not only are the rooms more updated and seemingly more recently renovated, they actually have the same spacious two sink bathrooms as the more expensive suites. Unless you’re willing to spend for the suites, go for the “deluxe garden”, they are probably the best choice for a room on the property. Now if you’re willing to spend the money, there are several “villa” type rooms available. Internally they’re pretty much the same. A private entryway and living room with access to a small private dipping pool and a spacious bedroom and bathroom. The furniture, decor and layout is significantly improved over the more practical “deluxe garden” but the cost is typically double or more per night. The bathroom seems to be the same or at least very similar to the “deluxe garden”. The best choice for a suite is hands down the “sea view pool villa”, and a lot of that has to do with privacy. The regular “pool villa” has a patio that often times faces the walkway, and though there are some foliage meant to screen you from passing foot and golf cart traffic, it doesn’t work very well. Expect other villa guests to gawk hilariously at you as they walk past. The “sea view pool villa” has a patio that faces a small cliff edge and the ocean, ideal for some privacy. As for the “beach front pool villa” the patio and plunge pool faces the beach, one of the highest traffic areas of the whole resort. So unless you have an exhibitionist side, expect dozens of strangers to have a clear view of your room anytime you open the curtains. The restaurants at Crimson are perhaps the most disappointing part of the resort. You have essentially three to chose from: the higher end Enye, that serves a Spanish menu, the buffet style Saffron and the ocean facing Azure beach club. I’ve eaten several times at all three and honestly, my advice is — go get a drink at Azure beach club, watch a beautiful sunset and eat dinner outside the resort. While Enye is a decent dig at Spanish food, the other restaurants just aren’t very good. The menu is clearly aimed at the Korean, Western or Japanese clientele, but it’s a generic attempt at best. That the menu at Azure also lacks any decent Cebuano dishes is also very disappointing. So would I recommend Crimson? Absolutely. The location, resort grounds and quality of service are fantastic. Even with the mediocre food and wildly different quality of the rooms, it’s still one of the best layover resorts in Mactan and is the perfect place to spend the night while waiting for a potentially lengthy flight. Stick to the “deluxe garden” or the “sea view pool villa”, drink at Azure but grab dinner outside and you’ll have a fantastic time.
