Well below expectations

Melbourne, Australia

The Shangri-La Boracay is a stunning resort, with its own private beach and set in purely idyllic surroundings away from the hustle and bustle of Boracay’s bars and clubs. However there are many problems here which will impact your stay, for my mind this is totally unacceptable when paying the price they are charging for accommodation. Most issues could be resolved fairly easily however there appears to be complete apathy from management at this resort. What makes it worse is that Boracay was recently closed for six months which would have been an ideal time for this resort to fix its shortcomings. Many negative reviews here tend to be spot on, whilst management replies to each one with an empathetic message on trip adviser, this is as far as it goes. I would rate management at this resort as absolutely woeful. Our room, 530 was beach view room with a balcony. Upon check in it had a broken safe, cupboard doors that don’t shut properly, a minibar fridge which didn’t work and was generally a well worn room which has had little to no maintenance in the 12 years this resort has been open. I had to repeatedly request for the safe to be fixed in the room before it was done. On my third request I had to insist and get upset in order for them to react. I had to repeatedly request the fridge be fixed, again three seperate occasions before it was done. I am not here spending money to follow up issues that are quite obvious in my room. This was very disappointing. Paint peeling, mortar falling from the walls, stains all over the bath are just some of the features you will get to enjoy in your $450+USD room. This resort is being run into the ground. The service is okay, depending on where you are. Pool service is slow, but in room dining was decent. They were very nice to organise a complimentary cake for my partners birthday and they provided us a free bottle of red wine for dinner. This was appreciated. Breakfast was decent, the service is good here and the spread was wide ranging. This was by far the highlight of the resort when it comes to dining. Roma Mediterranean restaurant was okay, it’s a very romantic restaurant perched up on top of the hill. Our entrees were excellent but the pasta was well over priced and average. When paying $30US for a pasta dish one expects it to be flawless, my gnocchi tasted of stale oil. I couldn’t eat it. Finally, upon checkout we requested a van for 1000 pesos to take us to station 3 which we were advised would be fine. When it was time to leave I was informed by concierge that no vans were available to do the drop off so she organised a Tuk Tuk. Funnily enough while leaving I drove past no less than 7 vans sitting parked in the car park which were not being used. My conclusion to all this is that I wish I came here ten years ago. Unless management is replaced and the resort upgraded I would not recommend anyone spend the money we did coming here. Boracay has many 5 star options now, Asya and Auhana which we also stayed at far exceeded the Shang and were also cheaper. The Shangri-La trades purely on its idyllic location, it’s scenery and it’s name. Attention to detail does not exist here and I wouldn’t return until these issues are all addressed.

Superb

Jeruslem

We spent a week here and loved it ,the complimentary pick up from the airport and speedboat transfer from the hotels own port side Lounge is very efficiently handled as is the check in and out . The front of house staff as well as all those involved in the transfer/ checkin process give a very friendly welcome as well as a professional service. Our room was very spacious and well furnished in a modern beach hotel style . All the facilities were available and worked well. The bathroom was clean and bright with a good range of toiletries, towels and linen are bright white and a high thread count ,sleep quality is excellent and the hotel is very quiet.there is a complimentary breakfast which in our experience is definitely one of the best we spend six months a year travelling staying at some of the best five star hotels so tend to be a bit spoilt but this hotels food offerings were amongst the best but lunch and dinner are very expensive , it’s better to go into town with the free shuttle and find a more value for money dinner.externally there are two magnificent beaches as well as huge pool all with a good supply of sun loungers as with every other department in the hotel beach service is perfect. In short we loved our time here and wouldn’t hesitate to return and recommend to others
