Meet at Cuzco airport and transfer to the elegant 5-star Hotel Belmond Monasterio for your two night stay.

This afternoon enjoy a city tour to see some of the best of Cuzco: Korikancha (the ancient temple of the Sun), the cathedral and archaeological remains from the Inca times located nearby (Kenqo, Saqsaywaman, Pukapukara and Tambomachay).

Today enjoy a day at leisure in historic Cuzco. After breakfast, explore the city yourself or perhaps book a tour locally. Stroll along narrow streets, past white-washed houses with their sky blue shutters. Explore the old town with its magnificent renovated colonial buildings. Sit by a fountain in a graceful square and people watch. Browse and barter for hand-crafted jewellery from makeshift stalls. Or enjoy a leisurely meal in one of the countless eateries.

Cusco is South America's archaeological capital and oldest continuously inhabited city. Inca Empire: Quechua-speaking Inca descendants can still be found multitudinously in the centuries-old stone-walled city streets. Cusco also boasts magnificent repositories of colonial art – fine examples can be found in the Cathedral and Museum of Archaeology.

After breakfast, transfer from your hotel to the train station in Poroy for your 3.5-4 hour journey on the Belmond Hiram Bingham train. Relax amid the elegant decoration of the 1920s Pullman trains and watch the stunning landscape unfold as you travel towards Machu Picchu. Enjoy brunch on board then take a shuttle to this magical citadel for a guided group visit.

Later, check-in the Belmond Sanctuary Lodge for an overnight stay. A luxurious lodge and the only hotel located adjacent to this sacred heritage site, it offers a chance to see a mystical moonlit night and spectacular sunrise at Machu Picchu.
