Sossusvlei Dunes

We love talking holidays and we're here to help. If you'd like our advice on how to create an amazing Namibia holiday, just give our Destination Specialists a call.

Set deep within the Namib Desert, the Sossusvlei Dunes are the world’s tallest sand dunes, the mammoth curving slopes rising to a remarkable 300 metres, and are Namibia's most spectacular sight.

The ochre-hued sand dunes are best seen at dawn and sunset, when the sun’s rays turn the sand to deep red. Climb Dune 45, the most photographed and famous dune, for spectacular views across the ocean of red sand spilling before you.

Here, you can also see the stunning Sesriem Canyon, situated at the entrance to the dunes and formed by the mighty Tsauchab River some two million years ago. The gorge plunges 30 to 40 metres to sparkling pools that are replenished by rain. Explore the caves and fascinating rock formations, and see the unique geological history of the area.

One of the best ways to see the dunes is by air: watch the sun rise over this stunning landscape in a hot air balloon. Or, why not go for something more thrilling and quad-bike across the dunes?
