relaxed and secluded

we took a 2hour boat ride from mainland to the island. this lodge is the only one on the small island. we were greeting by the locals singing to us as we docked. try to book rooms closes to the restaurant as it is quite a hike to go to the main restaurant for meals 3 times a day! rooms have a stunning view of the ocean and is clean and neat. however there is no TV. water is harsh so PLEASE carry excellent conditioners and hair mask. sadly for New Years there was not any real event for us. the locals dancing was less than average. there is Definitely room for improvement here as well as meal options. The staff, although struggling with English, were always so friendly and ready to assist us with any requests. As for the manager from South Africa ( apologies, I am terrible with names!) he was simply the best. He was the 1st to greet us and was incredibly sweet in upgrading us to the honeymoon suite. Devina at head office come through for us on the 11th hour. Working off hours to make our last minute trip possible. This trip and lodging was more than we imagined so much so that we booked and extra night with your lodge. we loved this trip to the resort and would gladly come back any time

Wonderful beach getaway

Ottawa, Canada

We had a fabulous time at Machangulo beach lodge! The location was amazing - wonderful beach, ocean, and dunes - felt very private. And though there were other people staying at the lodge it never felt crowded. We stayed in an ocean view room which was spacious and clean - indoor and outdoor showers were very nice and the balcony was great with a beautiful ocean view! Staff was very helpful and nice - always asking how we were doing, if there was anything they could do, etc. About 95% of the staff is from the local village too which is nice. They arranged a super cool picnic for us on a sandbar in the middle of the ocean which was a highlight for sure! Food was very good (included in our package). Alcohol wasn’t included and it added up a bit by the end of our 5 night stay ($3 USD for beer, around $7 USD for cocktails and mixed drinks, $15-35 USD for a bottle of wine). If you have time, I’d recommend checking out the local bar in the village called Bemjis! Cool place with super nice staff and good food. The pool area was pretty small and felt forgotten compared to the rest of the lodge, but we spent most of our time on the beach so it wasn’t a huge deal. The lodge about a 1.5 hour boat ride from Maputo, and my only feedback to the lodge would be that the arrival/departure experience at the marina could be smoothed out a bit! The marina is pretty run down and it wasn’t super clear what we were suppose to do when we arrived to meet the boat (if we were in the right place, where to wait, etc). Having someone there waiting for us when we arrived would have been much better/less confusing. Would 100% recommend this lodge to anyone looking for a great place to stay! Thank you for a great time!!
