A Slice of Paradise

Perched at the far end of an attractive, long stretch of white sand beach on a peninsula just south of Vilanculos is the serene Dugong Beach Lodge. The peninsula has been declared a wildlife sanctuary whilst the impossibly clear sea waters are part of the Bazaruto Marine National Park making is area flush with wildlife and sea life including turtles, manta ray, dolphins and the close to extension Atlantic dugong, plus numerous species of birds, fish and corals.

Dugong Beach Lodge, a simply beautiful resort mixes relaxation and peacefulness with activeness and tradition. Laze by the pool sipping an ice cold beverage whilst enjoying the warm African sun or enjoying a meal from either the buffet or A la Carte menu. Feeling adventurous try windsurfing, kayaking or scuba diving. Dhow cruises (a traditional sailing boat) are a superb way to see the coastline and watch the sunset. The 14 luxurious chalets each offer air-conditioning, direct access to the beach and their own private deck with secluded canopy for privacy and evening dining.

Direct flights from Johannesburg and Kruger National Park fly into Vilanculos taking 1 hour 40 minutes and 50 minutes respectively. From Vilanculos a boat transfer takes you the rest of the way. This is a great way to start your trip and may even spot dolphins and turtles.

Piece of paradise

This place is perfect for relaxation. meals times are mostly tailored to the needs of the guests with chef Roberto taking time to explain options and adjust based on our needs. Every meal was delightful, fresh and prepared with care. The surroundings are tranquil with an amazing aquarium around the jetty. The facilities are amazing, comfortable and very relaxing.

Wonderful break from the beaten track

London

We decided to spend a few days relaxing by the beach at the end of an epic 2 week journey and decided to sample a new country. The flight was from Joburg to Vilanculos and it went smoothly but we had to wait for ages for our driver to come. It was a short journey to the beach where we took a small boat to the resort. It really is secluded. It is not high end luxury and a little rustic-probably what the Thai islands were like 30 odd years ago before commercialisation. That added to the charm - very nice thatched lodges with direct access to the beach. The electricity and wifi was a little erratic. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The food got a little boring after a while as it was all similar but they certainly tried their best. In short a stunning location and I can well imagine Mozambique will become a major Indian Ocean destination in years to come.
