FANTASTIC STAY

We had the most incredible time and will be back, although at first we were on the fence. Anna, one of the members of the front office staff convinced us to give this place a shot because "she wanted us to get to experience the magic" well it worked. Anna was the reason we booked this place. When we arrived, we were pleased to see that we had arrived during an insanely low occupancy rate, and nearly had the entire place to ourselves. We had a great time fishing our first full day, and then spent the next three consecutive days diving at 2 mile reef which was unbelievable! Swam with sea turtles, manatees, sharks, mantas, rays, the underwater life as the best diving I have ever experienced. Would highly recommend. A very special shout out to ANNA, DIOGO, ARMANDO, DONALDSON, EUGENIA, AND GREGORY THE GM. THANK YOU GUYS!

Fantastic resort, top service

Muenchen

This was our first trip to southern Africa. After a tour to the Victoria falls and Safari in Botswana we decided to stay on the Island Bazaruto. That was an excellent choice. Stayed 6 nights at Anantara. Usually we spend less time in one Resort - it was a dreamlike stay, little paradise. Arrival / Departure: Pick up from the airport. The Hotel maintains a small lodge, waiting time about 20 minutes. Another 20 minute minibus drive to a beach hotel. Here is the jetty for the speed boat to Bazaruto (45 min.). They offer drinks at the poolbar with wonderful sea view. Softdrinks and beer are also offered on the boat. The boat docks directly in front of the Bar "Naval", where you have the check in and a welcome drink. At low tide you go ashore through waist-high water, but in any case you are welcomed by a dance group and the management and accompanied to your villa/bungalow by caddy (higher situated hill villas) or on foot (beach villas). All in all a very relaxed and well organized arrival & departure. Location: Simply fantastic. Located directly on the beach on the western side of the island (mainland facing wind protected side). No neighbour-resorts. Approximately 600 m beachfront. The view from the sea to the land and the sand dunes behind is impressive. Beach: Reading various reviews we had doubts. The greater the joy when we arrived. Turquoise crystal clear water, gorgeous. At high tide it almost reaches the beach chairs of the beach villas, at low tide it pulls back up to 500 m, then swimming is impossible. Instead low tide offers the great opportunity to have a mountain bike (good condition) ride along the beach (we recommend north direction) or to walk along the beach to admire the fishing boats lying in the mud flats. Time and again you meet fishermen or children on the way to school. The snorkeling on the beach was not rich, you should book a boat trip. The beach is cleaned regularly, there is only little flotsam because of the remoteness. Each beach villa has a solid wooden parasol with loungers. For the hill villas there are also umbrellas and sunbeds available. The beach and the atmosphere can be mentioned in the same breath as the Maldives (e.g. Veligandu Island), Accomodation: Some reviews complain about the condition. Certainly a refurbishment is necessary and has started already, but we had no restrictions, it is done step by step. Our beach villa was very large, beautiful located, clean and equipped with all facilities. Nothing to complain. When visible signs of use will be removed with the refurbishment and everything shines in new splendor, so much the better. Hopefully they will retain the style of interior, a mix of classic and Caribbean beach. Originally we had booked the Presidential Villa, but then changed into 2 beach bungalows. Decisive was the closer access to the beach and the distance to the Bars and Restaurants. The beach villas are connected by wooden walkways that lead trough the garden to the restaurants, bars and pools. From the hill villas an asphalted path leads down to the restaurants by the sea (caddie-service, max. 10 minutes by foot). A map on the hotel homepage would be helpful for orientation and the "right" choice. The beach villas have direct access to the beach, the hill villas have a beautiful view over the bay, but no direct access to the beach. The way to the beach is always via the reception (on foot or by caddy over the asphalt). From the beach villas all bars, restaurants and pools can be reached either directly via the beach or via the wooden walkways that lead through the garden. A matter of taste. Perhaps the gradual refurbishment entails a connecting way from the hill villas directly down to the beach. Minibar is filled up every day (beer & softdrinks, complimentary) Pools: There are 2 pools. One is located at Club Naval (dock) with a generous rock landscape and a slide for the kids. There are only a few shade places, but a great sea view. The second pool is located at the Turtle Pool Bar and can be reached in a few steps down the stairs from the reception. The pool is enchanted and quiet, surrounded by palm trees that give ample shade and a view to the sea. Both pools offer bar & restaurant & toilets in the immediate vicinity. Restaurants: There are two Restaurants: the Restaurant/Bar Naval at the pier and the Restaurant Golfinho near the reception. Depending on the number of guests, dinner is served alternatively in both restaurants (at some days BBQ at the beach). Lunch can always be served either in the Restaurant/Bar Naval or at the pools. In addition, there is a terrace by the central pool (close to reception), drinks and lunch can be served on request. Bars: Three bars are ready to run: the bar at Club Naval has a wonderful atmosphere. A worldclass place for the sundowner. But already at noon it is nice to stay there. The small Turtle Pool Bar by the pool near the reception is a fantastic place for an espresso, beer, wine between sunbathing, reading and beach walks. The bar at the Golfinho Restaurant is definitely THE Hemingway destination to have a drink before and after dinner and to stay out late boozing ;-) Simply top ! There are also enough seats in the surroundings of the bars with also a great atmosphere, Quality food / drinks: All inclusive at a high price level. Local alcoholic beverages are included. This was fine with us. Wine, beer, Gin Tonic etc.... If you want branded drinks you pay extra. Breakfast, lunch & dinner are absolutely top class. A lot of seafood, also lobster, all perfectly prepared, plentifully available, all side-dishes with a top taste. Conclusion: the food on offer and on variation are on a high international level.Presentation:: rich in variety. We didn´t have any repetitions during our 6-day stay. Barbecue on the beach, buffet, á la carte are offered in combination. Service: Definitely 5 stars ! The entire staff was highly trained. It is certainly difficult to get, train and keep good staff here in the country. Tipping: at the end of our stay we paid a joint tip at the reception. The tour guides received their tips separately. Trips: Depending on the length of the stay a boat trip to Pansy Island / Paradise Island with the fantastic abandoned hotel resort from the 50s) and an offroad trip around the island (Crocodile lake / Sailfish bay / Don Carlos) are highly recommended. Costs are high, but no alternative. In addition, the resort offers numerous options such as sandboarding and fishing. The free sundown trip on a fishing boat is worth it, nice atmosphere ! And take a ride with the mountain bike along the beach at low tide (direction to the north). It´s not worth biking inland, it´s too hard. There are only deep sandy paths. Spa: Beautifully located on the top mountain of the resort, fantastic view. Even if you don´t book any treatments: view the spot. Conclusion: The resort is not difficult to reach, transfer time about 90 min. Direct flight from Johannesburg to Vilanculos, then included transfer to the resort. In our case it went smoothly and without long waiting times. Top-managed resort in a wonderful beach location. Isolated, no other bars and restaurants on the island. All inclusive at its best. Significant low and high tide: those who are aware of this will spend wonderful and relaxing days. Our recommendation: min. 4 nights, max. 7 nights.
