Really nice Resort

My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Silversands. We have been to Secrets Maroma and we liked Silversands better. The food was ok but we don't go to Mexico for the food. The entertainment staff was great and our room was clean and plenty of space. We will definitely go back if we get the chance. I will point out we did the Preferred Club, it isn't worth the extra money.

The Entertainment staff made this trip for us.

We stayed at the resort between 27.12.18 and 12.01.19. We were initially supposed to have a room overlooking a pool but were actually near to a row of noisy and ugly air conditioning condensers so we paid a further $1,200 (about £1,000) for an ocean view room. The rooms are large with a queen size bed, sofa, bathroom with spa bath, shower, basins & toilet, together with a balcony. The food was wonderful at all the restaurants apart from the Mexican one, the experience there was spoilt by the overbearing manager who at every chance interrupted our meal to try to force us to buy overpriced bottles of Tequila. The best evening food choices were Italian, French, Japanese & Mediterranean. The breakfast choices were extensive, an amazing array of different foods with our waiter 'Miguel' a joy. There were 3 outdoor and one indoor bar, all the bar staff and their daily cocktail specials were exceptional, shout out to Philippe, Mercedes and Daniel who couldn't do enough for us. Now to the best bit... if we weren't out for the day to the many sightseeing or fishing trip opportunities, we spent time relaxing and taking up the many entertainment options organised by the entertainment staff. We have to mention 'Angel', who was an absolute diamond, he was always making us laugh, smile and encouraging us to join in with the various activities, he really is an asset to the team & we miss his happy fun filled ways enormously. 'Alex' was also great, his knowledge of the Mayan history was so interesting & he was so patient with all our questions. It would be an injustice not to mention the rest of the team who all played a part in our daily enjoyment. So a big thank you to Angel, Alex, Charlie, Jennifer, Elide, Dylan & Marrianna, with huge apologies to anyone we have forgotten, we miss you all & thank you. One thing I must mention, beware of things being added to your bill that you didn't have or authorise. We were charged $520 on checkout for a new years eve 'experience' which consisted of a meal that I couldn't eat as I am vegetarian (The hotel was advised of this, but there was no alternative for me, I was given a bowl of clear broth with vegetables and CHICKEN in it - not impressed) A table next to a large speaker with a partial view of a show that was really not worth watching, so we couldn't speak to each other, and they insisted that we had also had a bottle of vintage champagne, which neither of us had either ordered or consumed (we don't drink the stuff). On explaining this we were told that as a good will gesture they were prepared to reduce this bill by 35%... Now, remember what I have explained above.... we were then told that if we didn't pay it, the police would be called. Not fancying a spell in a Mexican cell, and the fact that I was in tears by this point, we paid a bill we didn't incur and checked out! Just beware that if you sign a 'ticket', things can be added to it afterwards... ! ie: a bottle of vintage champagne and a $520 price tag !
