Wonderful Christmas Trip

Kitchener, Canada

My husband and I stayed at Secrets Silversands Dec 15th – 25th. This was our first time to this hotel, but we have stayed in 2 other Secrets in the past. We loved every part of our vacation. We arrived at the hotel quite early, so our room wasn’t ready yet, but that is to be expected. Standard check-in time is 3pm at most hotels. Yomelly, our preferred club concierge checked us in and told us a few details about the hotel. We mentioned that we were interested in booking a wine cellar dinner at the French restaurant, and he was extremely helpful. Yomelly went out of his way to introduce us to the head sommelier, Eduardo, and with the help of both of these gentlemen we had our dinner booked for a night of our choosing. By the time we finished making the arrangements, the room was ready. We were thrilled to hear that, as it was still quite early. Our room was absolutely perfect. We booked the Preferred Club Oceanfront Swim-out room. We enjoy quiet and a relaxing environment when on vacation, so this was ideal for us. We lounged in front of our room on the most comfy pool beds every day. The room has a nice patio, with very comfortable loungers right at the infinity pool, and you certainly cannot beat that amazing ocean view. Housekeeping was great. Our room was spotless every day. There was only one occasion that I had to call later in the day for someone to come clean our room, but it was because we were in the room getting ready when they came in the morning. After I called down, our room was taken care of within the hour. Can’t ask for more than that. The drink service started at 10am and the waiters would come right up to our room to bring us our order. We had the pleasure of being waited on by Mercedes, Karen, and Francisco. We couldn’t have asked for more fabulous people. They quickly remembered our drink orders and made sure we were taken care of. We had some wonderful conversations with Francisco, he is a fabulous man and definitely added to our vacation experience. Our only disappointment with the service (not the staff's fault), was that we were not able to get the top shelf brand liquors like Grey Goose vodka from the wait staff. Not a huge deal, as our room was close to the preferred club lounge/bar, so we would walk over to grab our own drinks when we really wanted the good stuff. But it would have been nice if we had the option of having the wait staff bring it since we were staying in the preferred club. The preferred club lounge / bar itself was lovely. Nice snacks available from 7am – 11pm. Great touch when you just want to grab a pastry or quick bite. They varied the menu slightly every day. We’re not big breakfast eaters, so we would usually just have a few things from the lounge in the morning or order a couple items from room service. Never did check out the buffet option. The preferred club bar is where you will find all the top shelf liquors. If you’re a drink snob, like we are 😉 , the preferred club is definitely worth it just for that. Our bartenders, Oscar and Daniel were both great. Oscar was so nice and polite. He made it worth the walk from our room, just for the smile. Daniel was there most evenings, what a fun character. It was a pleasure getting to know both of these men. Oceana restaurant was great for lunch. Excellent food with and excellent view. Every day we were greeted by Fernando the restaurant manager. Big shout out to this gentleman!! Every day he was so thrilled to see us, walked us to our table and made sure we were enjoying our experience. The other option for lunch is the buffet, which again, we did not go to. And there is also the barefoot grill where you can grab some freshly grilled chicken, hot dog and burgers. It also includes some side dishes like nachos and salads. We ate there a couple times, both times the food was cooked perfectly. My husband loved the burgers, and he is super picky about his burgers. We ate at 4 of the restaurants for dinner. Bordeaux, Himitsu, Portofino, and Ratatouille. Unfortunately we never did make it to the Mexican restaurant, or Oceana for dinner. Next time! 😉 Bordeaux and Portofino were our favourites, mostly because of the dish choices, it’s just our favourite cuisine. We ate in the regular sections of both of those restaurants, but also got spoiled in both with the wine cellar experience. Over the top amazing and so worth the bottle of wine you choose to purchase. Eduardo, the head sommelier is fantastic!!! Not only did he choose the perfect wines for myself, he set my husband up with top shelf margaritas that are not on the regular menu. My husband actually doesn’t drink wine at all, but he loves taking me to the fancy wine cellar dinners, so it was definitely way above and beyond for Eduardo to ensure that not only was I happy with the wine, but also to make sure my husband had an extra special experience. I cannot say enough good things about Eduardo! I simply have to return again, just to have the privilege of being looked after by one of the most courteous professionals I have ever encountered. Thank you Eduardo!!! You added magic to our holiday. I also have to give a quick shout out to the Bordeaux restaurant manager, Enrique. Thanks for looking after us. The Portofino wine cellar experience was equally fantastic. Our waiter Roberto Jasso and his assistant Ernesto were perfect. What a great team! At the Himitsu restaurant we only stopped in for a quick appetizer before Sunday Night Football. I had Sushi and my husband had the spring rolls. We both loved our food. Ratatouille, the Mediterranean restaurant was definitely not as fancy as the others, but the food was very tasty and again the service blew us away. Our waiter was Abelardo Nunez, and he couldn’t have made us feel more welcome. He was quick and efficient, but more importantly so friendly and polite. One of the fun highlights of our stay was watching Sunday Night Football outdoors. The entertainment team set up a projector and the game was watched on one of the big walls of the building. I was concerned that it might not be the best quality, but both the picture and sound were perfect. So much fun. Big shout out to Eric and Leopoldo, the bar managers we encountered. They both quickly learned about our love of Gray Goose vodka and made sure we could always get it. Even when we were hanging out at the sports bar, they brought some for us to enjoy. Again, going well above and beyond what was required. I know I’m raving about the staff, but they are so worth it. If you have never experience the level of service that a Secrets hotel offers, you are missing out. This is the case in all the other Secrets resorts we’ve visited in the past and Secrets Silversands certainly lived up to the reputation. Overall, we had a fantastic experience. I’m sure we will be back!

Resort is good. This was our 3rd time. Seemed a little less crowded this year. The staff is what makes the resort. The entertainment staff is amazing. AnnaBanana, Migeul, are great. Shows at night are usually good
