Expected more

We arrived with very high expectations of the hotel and our first reaction was wow, this is unreal. It looked stunning and felt like this was money well spent. The staff were very welcoming and couldn't fault them. However, as the days went on we found the food at the hotel not very good, i think the restaurants could be better and we ended up ordering room service a few times as this food tasted a lot better than the restaurants they had. The service in most of the restaurants was really good and attentive, just that the food quality and choice was let down. The best restaurant however in terms of food was called Himitsu, the Japanese restaurant but the service was terrible. It took us almost 3 hours to have a 3 course meal. We complained at the time but sped things up slightly but the whole service was just unacceptable. The dive shop guy where you get the life jacket and snorkels from was very moody, no 'hi' or 'bye', literally just said sign here, he needs to lighten up a bit. Overall we expected a lot better from the hotel once we got acquainted. I don't think we will be returning anytime soon in all honesty.

3rd time and the last one

I’m writing this review front the hotel. This is our 3rd time staying in this hotel but we also stayed twice on Secrets The Vine , Dreams Cancun, Dreams La Romana and Zoetry Isla Mujeres so we know very well the standards of these hotels , our expectation was high based in our previous visit but this time we noticed from the time we arrived that few things had changed in this hotel. I called the hotel 2 days ahead requesting an upgrade to a higher category since we’re loyal ( repetitive) guests.We were not impressed with reception personal, the person who did our check in was not professional, we felt not welcomed, he didn’t asked us or explain anything about the resort , he didn’t know at that point that we been here twice until I asked about the upgrade that was requested, of course he refuse to give us the upgrade saying that they were full which later I found was not true, he also refused to provide us the WIFI password until we get the room. When we got our room (8202) we noticed right away that the room temperature was not right but we didn’t say anything since we didn’t know for how long the a/c was working ,that night my wife wake up at night due to the room temperature, next day this issue was reported to the reception twice by phone since our concierge was not available in his desk during the day, at night I went to talk to the hotel supervisor to let him know about this issue, maintenance used a thermometer gun to figure out the room temperature and the air that was coming out from a/c vent, the difference was 9 degrees, the set point in our room thermostat was at 65 but the room temperature was 74 by maintenance, so the a/c was not cooling the room properly as we suspected, they offered to check another room in same building to find not much difference , maintenance told us that this is the temperature in all rooms (74 degrees) and there’s no way to improve that, they brought a portable fan to help with this issue. Sorry Secrets Akumal but we’re not returning and not staying in any other Secrets hotel due to this issue, we already cancelled the next month reservation to Secrets Capri.
