5 Star Jungle Paradise

Michigan

The Chable Resort is a truly unique, 5-star experience. It is built on the former site of a Mexican Hacienda/Plantation. The architecture is stunning and is a fantastic hybrid of modern and old-world rustic. The staff is very friendly and very helpful. We were greeted upon on our arrival with a cold drink and a friendly staff member. As we walked to the main reception area, we were very impressed with the expansive grounds and buildings. The highlight is the main building where the reception, library, boutique and bar are situated. The tiled floors are stunning, and the furnishings and finishes are luxurious but modern. The villas is situated in the jungle and very private. This is a place if you want to experience nature and serenity. All you hear are the birds and insects. The villa is fantastic! It has floor to ceiling glass walls, modern decor and high-quality materials. The bathroom is a showstopper complete with a huge indoor and outdoor shower, double sinks and soaring glass walls. The jungle is so thick that the villa is totally private. The plunge pool was nice, but it must be cleaned daily as the jungle trees drop leaves 24/7. The intense heat in Merida also means you will probably ask to have the water temperature turned down! I love that tea, coffee and pastries were delivered every morning at 7. The air conditioning was terrific for which we were quite grateful as the weather was very hot. The main pool is lovely, but we did not use it as a family with two screaming kids occupied it every day from 9-6. There is NOTHING for children to do, but that will not stop parents from bringing the little angels with them. We were somewhat disappointed in the food. We ate at the restaurant pool for every meal. The selections are quite limited and there was very little variety. There are surprisingly very few Mexican food options! The fine dining restaurant looked nice, but we are not for fancy, overpriced food. What we did have at the pool restaurant was very good, but nothing fantastic. Thankfully, we like simple food! The staff were unfailingly polite and warm. There were a few service issues. Room service did not come to get our dishes in the villa until we called three times. We had to wait 12 hours to get a menu from the main restaurant after it was requested. It took 18 hours to get a quote on taxi service to take us to Merida. So, I think there are some communication issues at the main reception. I wish I had a rudimentary knowledge of Spanish as there was a language barrier with some of the staff. The spa was a huge disappointment. The spa pool was literally too hot to swim! The spa restaurant had a VERY healthy breakfast that resulted in us finally asking for toast so we could have some sustenance! My treatment was quite unusual. My massage therapist was blind. I am in NO way suggesting that a blind person should not be allowed to be employed at a spa. But the therapist accidentally stepped on me (and a very vulnerable part of my anatomy!) during the Thai massage, so it was a bit problematic. One of my favorite activities was the tea and dessert service at 5PM. This is a very peaceful and beautiful resort with good service and a very warm and friendly staff. The few problems we experienced are probably the exception and not the norm.

Fantastic property

UK

This is an amazing place to stay. The grounds are vast and beautifully tended. Our casita was wonderful. It was spacious and comfortable with a huge bathroom with indoor and outdoor showers. There was plenty room for all the luggage one needs when touring Mexico. Our terrace had lots of comfortable seats and a large plunge pool. It was surrounded by exotic plants and was very private. The restaurants were very good and the staff very helpful. We would have liked to stay here much longer. Maybe we will be able to return.
