Diving and Watersports in Mauritius

Discover the stunning Indian Ocean above and below the waterline

Mauritius holidays are great for exploring the tropical waters to see the local marine life around the coral reefs and shoreline that surrounds the island.

One incredibly popular activity is stand up paddle-boarding (SUP for short). A serene pastime that will have you hooked as soon as you clamber aboard, SUP is a great way of breaking your routine and getting a little core exercise. There are many ideal spots to explore such as the Blue Bay Marine area, rich in flora and fauna.

There are many scuba diving opportunities to be experienced around the island’s main tourist spots, including Flic en Flac and Trou aux Biches. Mauritius has a wealth of excellent dive sites and there are over 30 that have good visibility of up to 40 metres; perfect for exploring wrecks and coral reefs. On the calm waters of the west coast, head for Whale Rock or Lost Anchor for hard and soft corals and colourful marine life.

Perhaps the most relaxed and invigorating way to explore the island is under sail. There are a variety of different vessels for your enjoyment including catamarans, yachts and even speedboats that will cruise around the bays and smaller islands lying just off the coast such as Ile aux Aigrettes and Round Island.

Way above the waves, there’s parasailing in Grand Baie Belle Mare and Ile aux Cerfs, for those who wish to get a bird’s eye view of the island. Kayaking is also a fun watersport, particularly in family groups among inlets, by mangroves or where shallow lagoons are present. If you have fancied trying your hand at water skiing then you’ve come to the right place. It is widely available everywhere in Mauritius, being one of the most popular watersports on the island.

However you choose to experience Mauritius, we recommend you enjoy the watersports on offer. It will spice up your day, allow you to discover the colourful marine life and make your holiday much more memorable.
