With so many botanical parks, rainforest trails, old sugar cane plantations, mountain tracks and gorgeous coastal landscapes, Mauritius has a fantastic reputation as an exotic location for land-sports enthusiasts.

The island is a premier golf destination with international class golf courses dotted around, each with their own unique character, challenge ratings and breathtaking terrain. The manicured greens and fairways are offset by swaying palms, white sand beaches and perfect views of the ocean to add to the experience. As a golfing holiday, Mauritius is hard to beat. A prime example is the outstanding Ile aux Cerfs Golf Club, one of the most beautiful courses to be found anywhere in the Indian Ocean region, featuring a magnificent 18-hole championship course designed by the legendary Bernhard Langer. The Long Beach Golf and Spa Resort provides guests with free access to this panoramic golf course; a private bus will shuttle you to a pontoon to be whisked to the island by speedboat across the crystal clear lagoon, a perfect example of the glamour and pleasure the sport of golf provides.

Mauritius is not only a paradise for golfing enthusiasts; the island is also perfect for a wide range of sporting pursuits ranging from horse-riding to trail-running, quad-biking and zip-lining, karting and jeep safaris. Staying close to the sea, there are plenty of games of beach soccer or volleyball to take part in.

Many resorts provide cycles for hire so you can discover the beauty of the island under your own steam, pedalling through nature reserves and along idyllic coastal tracks observing the fabulous flora and fauna as you go.

The Maritim Resort and Spa provides an incredible array of multi-sports action ranging from beach football to archery, or you can take golf lessons with certified professional instructors. They also have an equestrian centre for once in a lifetime horse rides on the beach or inland through their tropical private estate.

The beautiful Heritage Le Telfair Golf and Wellness Resort, as well as having a golf course, also offers serene pursuits such as Yoga and Tai Chi; whether on the beach as you celebrate sunrise or sunset, or within shady botanic gardens amid tropical birdsong. Here you’ll also find guided walks through the nearby Frédérica Nature Reserve. With a variety of different terrains and beautiful landscapes, Mauritius is the island of choice for those who prefer to stay active on holiday.

Mauritius is once again hosting the AfrAsia Bank Mauritius Open for its third edition, taking place in November 2017 at the Heritage Golf Club, Domaine de Bel Ombre. This golf course has been listed among the European Tour's top courses and awarded two years in a row at the World Golf Awards.
