Intramuros, Manila

Also known as the walled city, Intramuros was built by the Spanish in the 1600's and was the original core of Manila and seat of government when the Philippines was part of the Spanish Empire. Designed to protect the city from foreign invasion and guarded by Fort Santiago , Intramuros was badly damaged during WW II, however restoration work has been taking place since the 1950's and thankfully there has been very limited commercialisation of the area meaning many of the Spanish influences are still present today.
