"I would highliy recommend staying on land for a few nights and then over water. That way you can experience the best of both on one Maldivian island."

Paradise!

Singapore, Singapore

We had the most wonderful vacation at Veligandu! Where to start this review? There are 260 employees at Veligandu and 92 villas, meaning that the employees outnumber the guests. Veligandu pays attention to all the details! We were there on my 50th birthday and I was treated like a queen all day. The waiter told us that they announce all the celebrations each day at their briefing so that the employees knew who was having a special day. Believe me, they made it special! We took the all inclusive package and really were pleased. The drinks were great and it just made life so easy. Had we not chosen the all inclusive package, the cocktails were priced at $10.50 and the soft drinks at $5. If (hopefully when) we return, we would take the all inclusive package again, even though we are not big drinkers. We stayed in an over the water villa on the sunset side and it was amazing. The reef is about 15 metres away. Sadly the coral is bleached but the fish are abundant! We loved our snorkeling! It was our highlight each day! If you are going to the Maldives, invest in some good snorkelling equipment as you will use it a couple of times per day! We snorkeled by our villa and also in the area off the “beach”. Both were great. I would suggest bringing your own conditioner as the provided conditioner did not work well on my salty, sandy mess of hair. Our flight arrived at 11 pm and we stayed the night in the Champa Central Hotel in Male overnight before catching the sea plane to Veligandu. They are part of the same corporation as Veligandu. We were very impressed with the ease and organisation of the details from getting us from one place to the other. We cannot recommend Veligandu strongly enough.

Second visit even better than the first!

Chester, United Kingdom

We first visited 3 years ago, and I was slightly hesitant about returning to Veligandu, as I had read that jet-skis were now available for hire, and although lots of resorts do have them, for me, they are totally inappropriate for a small, peaceful island. I need not have been concerned, however, as on the one occasion I noticed them in use, they were well away from the beach and could not be heard at all. What a relief! Our visit was almost perfect: quality and range of food in the restaurant, attitude and effort of the staff, variety of entertainment, quality of the house reef, cleanliness of the whole island - all excellent. So much to see - a variety of rays, black tip sharks, turtles, even a display by some dolphins as we had breakfast and a midday visit from a huge fruit bat! We were treated to quite a few little perks as repeat guests, which made a very welcome change from most hotels, where they don’t seem to care whether their guests return or not. In fact, one of the things that made us realise just how good the service was, was that we were offered our room until 3pm, well past the usual checkout time of noon, we didn’t even have to ask. Also, we were able to have lunch after we were meant to have checked out - again, no question of having to pay extra. These are the things that made us feel as though the hotel actively tries to make everyone’s holiday as easy and stress free as possible. We stayed on a full board basis, as opposed to all inclusive, and were pleased that a plentiful supply of water, both in the room and at meals, was free of charge - again, no sense of squeezing every last penny out of guests. We were disappointed to have our whale shark excursion called off, due to others cancelling at the last minute, and felt that maybe a better system (perhaps to have a reserve list for others that might want to take the place of those dropping out) could have helped. We would very much like the opportunity to swim with whale sharks and so next time might have to consider a resort closer to where they are found. I doubt very much, though, that we will be able to find anywhere as genuinely welcoming as Veligandu. Overall, our stay was a real treat and a wonderful experience, all thanks to excellent management and lovely staff, I would recommend it to anyone.
