Paradise

It was wonderful stay. The water and beaches were out of this world. The resort has not interfered with the nature, they have maintained good practices, to keep everything clean. The resort itself itself is self contained, so u can spend time without leaving the island. The staff were friendly and prompt service. Overall a memorable stay.

Beautiful setting, poor service

Dublin, Ireland

My husband and I recently spent 6 nights on Meeru Island as part of our honeymoon. We stayed in the jacuzzi water villa, which was beautiful. The setting of this resort is gorgeous - clear turquoise water, white sand and lots of marine wildlife. We opted for the all inclusive package which meant that our breakfasts, lunches, dinners and all snacks and drinks were included as part of our stay. The buffet options are impressive - there is a lot of choice, the food is fresh and you can tell that the chefs really care about the quality of the food. When you're part of the all inclusive package you eat in the same restaurant for all 3 meals and you have the same table and the same waiter. Our waiter, Ahmed in the Farivalhu Restaurant was brilliant - friendly and attentive. It can become a little 'samey' to eat in the same place so often so we did eat in the Asian Wok restaurant also which isn't included in the package but was worth visiting for something different. The biggest let down for us was the service provided by the staff. It's INCREDIBLY expensive to stay on Meeru and this was our honeymoon so we didn't mind splashing out. For the money that we paid we definitely expected that the resort would treats all it's guests like VIP's and that was not the case. The representative that we met at Male Airport (Shamman) was unfriendly to the point of rudeness, not a great first impression of Meeru. With the exception of 1/2 staff members, all of the staff at the snack bars across the island are rude. You won't get a please, thank you or a smile from any of them. On one occasion we had to ask for water 3 times before we got it and when we did, the waiter asked us why we were so thirsty before giving it to us. I'm not sure who is responsible for the hiring/training of the staff in these bars but they really need to evaluate the service they are providing to guests, it's absolutely not good enough. We expected fantastic treatment but would have settled for basic friendliness by the end and that doesn't say a lot about the staff. We regularly had to call reception to ask when our room would be cleaned and on another occasion, the cleaner left our room service tray outside our door with food on it so that flies gathered and we had to call reception twice to ask them to remove it. Overall we had a great time on Meeru and tried to not let the service get to us but we wouldn't return as a result.
